i just swapped a first gen. b16 into my '89 hf this week and it won't start unless the vtec pressure switch or its ground wire is unplugged. if either is disconnected, it starts on the first crank and runs perfectly (but with no vtec of course). when its hooked up it will just keep turning over and will never start. it's not throwing any other codes except 22 (vtec pressure switch) when its unplugged and the car is running. i've triple checked ALL other connections, grounds, etc. and everything seems perfect. i am using the vtec sub harness from rywire.com and put each pin in the correct spot in the harness according to their directions. if anyone can help me i would greatly appreciate it.

simple the problem is in the VTEC pressure switch circuit. could be shorted wire, shorted switch, bad ecu. sounds like it might be the switch. if u have an ohm meter, measure the resistance across the VTEC pressure switch when u have it unhooked. if it's stuck closed, then that will tell u'r ecu to switch on VTEC at a stand still. that equals no good. all u'r timing will be far enough off that it just won't get going. another thing, after u get it started w/ it unhooked, try hooking it up and see wut happens. if it switches into VTEC, then again it's the switch. u could just wire in u'r own switch into the car so u can kick on VTEC whenever u want.

lol sounds like the same problem I had before. you wired it wrong, or atleast thats what it was when I did it. I acutally read the plug diagram wrong and wired it backwards of how it should have been. and it would just turn over unless the vtec sel was unhooked. double check your wiring dude.
