I bought a K&N cai from ebay for my avenger, and it seems to work pretty good, not to mention the cool sounds it makes when you rev it. But I would think cold air intakes are all the same, perhaps some are made of more durable material than others, but I would think AEM because it is a more popular brand name.

Search for Mitsubishi Eclipse instead of Dodge Avenger. You want to find an intake for an RS or GS model Eclipse. Not the GS-T or GS-X. The difference in the styles and brands is how well the piping is insulated or conducts heat. It would suck (no pun intended) for you to be pulling that cold air up just to heat it up again because your engine bay gets hot and your intake doesn't protect from that.

Here's the AEM website. http://www.aempower.com/product_intake_app.asp This link should take you straight to the page you need. If it defaults just search for mitsubishi Eclipse Cold Air. Then look for the 2.0L Non-Turbo intake. This will work perfectly with your Avenger.

So, would a cold air intake be heavier, since it is made of more dense material to keep the heat out? Because my cold air intake is pretty light weight.

No because there is less material and the design is made to ensure weight loss for the vehicle.

But it would still keep the cold air from heating up right?

Yes it would still keep the air cold.
