Where is LM003?

Hi guys, I haven't been in for a while, so I was just wondering: what's the story on LM3? I remember hearing that the car was crashed a couple months ago, and that Frank might have possibly sold it. What's the status of that car now?

Ralph Lauren bought it for supposedly upwards of $4mm. I heard it was slightly damaged on one of the rear quarters, not that big. Peloton posted pics of the rear wing broken.

It hasn't resurfaced since the accident.
Hopefully in time it will, but I don't expect the new owner to share the car as much as the last one was willing to.
Incidentally, it's just LM3, not LM003.

Okay, thanks for the quick replies. So, why did Frank sell the car? I thought that he was pretty happy with it? And, if he sold LM3, then does he still have 007 and 068?
That's too bad...Frank was really good about letting people see his car, and take pictures of it. It definitely didn't deserve to get crashed... :frown:

Frank hasn't told us why the LM was sold, but I suspect it involved one of those "offers you just can't refuse". ;) He's not accountable to us in any way, so I have no problem with him selling the car if it was the right decision for him.
I do think the fans of the McLaren are losing something with the car being tucked away in a collection like Lauren's now. Maybe I am wrong though, and the car will still come out for certain events from time to time - we'll see I guess. Until #055 was shared at the MFA in Boston, there were hardly any photos of it which tells me that it wasn't used or displayed very often. I might have one photo of #074 (Lauren's other F1 road car) but can't really confirm that. I hope the same fate doesn't fall on the LM.
Frank has also recently sold #068 - I went for a ride with the new owner of that car up in Monterey. The full story is here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=447218).
I believe Frank still has #007. If you read the story (http://www.bmwcca.org/Roundel/2002/11/Article_1.shtml) from the beginning, that's really all Frank set out to own - one McLaren F1 he could drive when he wanted to. Some (not me) would even say that having more than that is being selfish.
