First post and very useful forum. I have read all the posts regarding this issue and am further along than i would have been. Heres where im at.
Had the no-start problem (turn the key and everything works but the starter and engine) and didnt want to do unnecessary work, But i did anyway. Just to try and get it up the driveway into some shade I jumped the starter at the solenoid and it spun but wouldnt turn the engine. So out comes the starter and were off to Auto Zone....Of course it checks out fine and back in it goes. Turn the key to run and jump it again it cranks the motor, thankfully, but still wont start.
Now im after my main target, that from reading on here is the formidable VATS. I was getting the security light on steady but the starter got me sidetracked. Leading up to this it would do the no start occasionally and now its full-time.
I first tried to check the resistance from the key to the wires coming from the back of the steering column( orange insulation 2 wires etc), after 15 rounds of toe to toe action with that spawn of satan wire clip connector i threw in the towel instead of cutting it and moved on to that realay in the D-side kick panel.
I took the advice on here and put the paper between the....whatever it is (seems like a rubber band would work better but..) and voila, Or so i thought. Now the key will work everything just fine..full power, starter turns, engine turns, fuel pump is humming perfectly, but it wont start.
It usually runs fine and starts with smallest bump of the starter. I find it hard to believe that multiple things screwed up at once. Am i STILL dealing with VATS or what? Should i squirt some gas into the intake? I thought about doing that just to see if its getting fuel because i know the fuel pumps working.
Any suggestions?

Have you checked for spark?
Not yet, Cant do anything with it till tomorrow. I understand i'll have to check for spark etc but i was wondering if the VATS is still involved before i go off chasing my tail again...
I know it should start if all systems are go and the fuel pump is working, But could VATS not be letting the injectors work?

When the VATS reads proper resistence, it grounds the starter relay and sends a "fuel enable" signal to the ECM. So if the starter is turning over, VATS is getting the proper resistence, but if the VATS module itself went bad it may not be sending that fuel enable signal to the ecm. You could pick up a Noid light and plug it into an injector pigtail. If the injector is getting a pulse it will light up.

Im getting spark to the coil, spark to the dist-cap, spark out of the dist-cap and changed the ICM for the hell of it-still wont start.
I pulled a plug, put the wire back on and cranked it..no spark...it would spark just out by itself correct? changed the rotor button too...whats next? :banghead:
