Fatter tires for my 98

Hey Everyone,

I need to get new tires for my car anway, so I want to get some fatter ones, basically because they look better (in my opinion).

What I need is some advice. I want to keep the stock 15" rims and wheel covers, but i need to know the fattest tire I can fit on those rims that wont interfere with the wheel arches. I have not lowered the car so the suspension is stock also.

I was hoping for some 225/60/15, any advice?

Your local tire dealer should have a book that tells what size tire goes on what car. There are maximum size tire recommendations for all cars based on the rim width. If they put the wrong size tire on your car and it rubs on something and blows out, they are liable. Hope this helps.

Would anyone be able to tell me if I can put 215/75/15? I dont see why I couldn't. I would like to fill the wheel well out a little more. I understand the pros and cons of 75's, but will it really matter too much?

Any advice would be appreciated. Dont the Police specials run high profile tires?

there is no way a 65 or a 60 would be too large if in the right size. 75's are tall compared to 65/60's

A 215x75x15 is approx. 27.5 inches tall and a tread width about 7 iches wide.
A 225x60x15 is approx. 25.6 inches tall and a tread with about 7.5 inches wide.
Not much difference in width, but way shorter in height.
What you need to do is stay very close to original height, if not you will throw your speedometer off calibration to say the least.

If you want to go wider and remain about same in height, would need to know original tire size exactly first.

By the way, tirerack shows a optional original tire/wheel size on your car of - Original Equipment Optional 225/60-16

The +1 upgrade for a Lumina is 225/60/16 (0.8% speedo change), so 225/60/15 would be too small and cause a 4.5% change in speedometer reading. If you're going from 215/70/15 and want a 60-Series 15 inch tire, you'd need 245/60/15, which is a 1% change.

I ran his vin for him, and the original tire size is a 205/70/r15, and he has the 15x6 steel factory wheels. The 225/60/r16 were for a Lumina LTZ/euro model. Hopefully, someone will have an answer to what the +1 for his original tire size is, while keeping with a 15x6 rim.
