Remote start

I recently purchased and had installed a remote start/alarm kit in my 2004 monte carlo ss (no more cold mornings!!) but when i start the car with the remote, it stays on for 30 seconds and the engine shuts off. The manufacture of the remote start says its the security bypass but the installer says its not recognizing the voltage and may need another coil pack?? has anyone heard of this or had a similar experience??

You are going to have to being it back to the place that istalled it! cause VATS will not allow it to start at all if that were the problem! It could have been a problem when they set learn for the voltage! But this should be something that can be fixed by the install shop! If they can't have them pull it if and replce it, have you gone past the 30 day return policy, or what ever their policy is!

no i talked to the installer yesterday. he said it probably needs a new coil pack or else the brain is bad but said to bring it back and he would check it out.

coil pack should not be an issue, otherwise this would happen when started with the key[imho], i would think it's more of a pass-lock issue [theft deterrent]. the PCM/BCM/IPC needs to see a certain voltage from the pass-lock system to enable spark and fuel delivery. i've had several issues stemming from remote starts, and 99 out 100 times, it's the remote start system, not a 'factory' part issue. are there any DTC's stored in the PCM?

another thing i noticed is that when i start the car with my remote, i disarm the car to unlock the doors(since the car must be armed for me to be able to start the car w/ remote), I get in the car and put the key in the ignition like i am supposed to do and turn it to "on", the alarm itself then RE-ARMS itself and when i put the car in gear to take off, the alarm goes off. could this also be part of the pass-lock system??

the manufacturer said its not the brain otherwise it wouldnt start at all.

if it were me, i'd take it back to who installed it, and show them what it does [start/stall, alarm going off when in gear] and see what they say. it sounds to me like it's definitly an issue with their product.

Agreed! Take it back to them and either have them take it out and give your money back, then go somewhere else. Or they will fix it!

HEY GUYS... turns out the original person who installed it installed the security bypass wrong after all. I Finally took it back and told them to check it again.. (they didnt want to saying it was the brain of the alarm) and they found the error. works fine now!!
