This would be a good time for some DSM guys to step in. I'm pretty sure your 2 liter engine in the neon is the same engine that's in the N/A 2nd gen. DSM's, and I know they make turbos for those cars, so I would think it would work for your car as well...isn't that motor called the 420 d or something?

What about an SRT-4 swap? Talk about a sleeper...

I've seen it done before, the srt-4 swap that is. There's a car on ebay, I'll try and find it.

edit: Here's the link.

you should def do that, except for making it look as crappy as the ebay one

CivRacer95

Yeah I agree, the looks of the one on Ebay aren't to great, but hey, that makes for one hell of a sleeper. Aren't those Neons lighter than the current ones as well?

I agree it would make a good sleeper, but you can do that without making it induce a gag reflex.

a 95 neon coupe weighs 2385 lbs
2004 sxt weighs 2626 lbs
srt-4 weighs 2900lbs

Hmm..i always thought the Neon engine was a 2.4 litre...either way, do whatever it takes to make it fast and not ugly at the same time.

Ive heard from a few people that the 1st gen (im not sure if a 95 is a first gen) neons take extriemly well to turbos, and if it is the same motor as the one in the 2g turbo eclipse, then your right it would be the 420a i believe.

Best thing you can do for your car is invest in a turbo kit. The DOHC 2.0L in the neon is actually quite strong. There are many instances of people turbo'ing their neon and the setup being quite reliable.

If you don't want to jump into a turbo kit right away i would suggest some free mods:
Intake
Header
Exhaust
Throttlebody
Cams
Tune (you will need a tune after all that, with all those mods you will run rich)

Yeah, we had two members on here for a while from the Bay Area of California that had turbo Neons. That means Non-SRT4s. If I remember correctly, they were pretty quick.

i definately agree with you on that one i dont think that engine is capable of handling that and i heard one shot of nitros is equal to about 100000 miles to your engine idk how true that is but im not willin to blow up the engine

GForce957
09-19-2005, 09:34 PM
its not equal to 10000487335334 miles, but u have to have it figured out perfect, or else u will blow it, and then you would have to downgrade to a metro or something

Using Nitrous is like having sex with a hot girl with STDs...you wanna try it soooooooo bad, but don't know if the consequences are worth it...

Harsh...neon's aren't THAT bad...wasn't there some dude who used to post that had a neon that was all-motor and ran low 14's? That's no easy feat.

i thought those neons had a really shitty 2.2l... guess not. if it is a 420a then you can turbo it. ive got some experience in that field.

hmmm... mayeb my post had a negative connotation.

i mean get another car in addition to the neon, a car with more potential

Can't you swap a 4g63 into an old 2 door coupe r/t neon? Even with low boost putting out 225-250hp, the power to weight ratio would spin tires through a few gears...

You forgot the intake manifold. Throttle bodies are generally useless without an intake manifold to pair it with.

OK to answer a few myths and incorrect statements about neons

All Neons except SRT4's had 2.0 Chrysler engines, there was a DOHC and an SOHC version.

Yes, the DOHC engine is a 420A, however its backwards compared to the one in the DSM/Avenger

Yes, you can run 14's all motor on stock internals on a DOHC neon, my friend did it, you just need bolt ons, really sticky tires, and really good weather.

A 4G63 would be a nearly impossible swap.

Yes, a throttle body alone DOES make a difference on the neon since Automatic DOHC neons came with a larger TB than Manual ones using the same manifold (no clue why, but its a VERY common mod).
