91 escort check coolant light

Hello,

The other day I bought a very clean 91 Escort LX liftback with 44K on it.

It is ready for a lot of "sprucing" as much is original "91".

I solved the "brake" light problem by resetting the switch on the master cylinder, and topping off the fluid.

The "coolant check" light is another thing. I filled the bottle up...past full as matter of fact. It still seems to go on and off at various times. Sometimes it will stay on until you finish driving. Sometimes you might not see it for a while. I have had it go on going around a corner.

What is a common problem here? I was thinking of changing the thermostadt, of pulling the resovoir and looking at things. I cleaned the plug in on the wire to the resovoir. The engine temp guage shows normal, I don't know if it is overheating, I see no sign of it.

Can anybody give me any good hints??

Corrosion or sediment deposited on the sensors in the resovoir may be what's up. Pull the resovoir, clean it out good, use some lime remover. Same for the radiator.
