I have a '97 Chevy S-10 2.2L I-4 witha 5-spd manual transmission. I want to drop a V6 from an '82 El Camino. (not sure of the size in cubic in.)
1)Will it fit?
2)Will the stock transmission fit with the new engine?

1) many people make the 5.7L 350 fit, so yes, a six fits in there with no problem, in fact, i have a six in mine, and if you think about it, a v-6 is overal shorter then an i4 because there are only 3 cylenders to each side instead of 4 in a row
2) no, you will need the six's tranny, sorry, way the cookie crumbles
and just a side note, i beleve the El swap your going to be doing is to a 4.3l v 6 which came stock in some s 10's

Your right about the swap Doug, but I don't believe that they made the 4.3L until the Late 80's. Although I might be wrong.
chevygirl. If it's a 2.8L (173 cubic inches) V6 you really don't want it.
If it's just about any other V6 it should be fine.
You'll never pass emissions with a motor that old and it'll be too expensive and hard to convert to fuel injection.
