exhaust,CAI. and underdrive pullies would be a good start.

Do you drive the car all year round, and does it ever see snow? If it's not your daily driver I would go with 4.10 gears aswell as exhaust, pulleys, also don't forget the K&N filter($45 ads about 5-10hp). The 4.6 likes the higher rpm so to get it there quicker go w/ the 4.10's. If gas is a consern then go with 3.73's. If you drive all year round and all types of weather then maybe consider 3.55's, or just do the other performance stuff first and leave the rearend alone. A good set of gears (Ford Motorsport, richmond, etc..) will cost about $200 and around $200 to have installed. You have to have special tools and know what your doing to do that job. It may be a little pricey, but gears are the best bang for the buck mod to get, especially for the 4.6. No I'm not dogging the 4.6, I just know that it likes the higher RPM so whynot get it there quicker. Good Luck.

yeah , sound advice giddy , but i think he may have meant Chrome stuff that adds power under the hood.
They make a polished or chrome part for everything now days, just gotsta look!
As for just power, gears are great for umpf as giddy said. Umm.. you can do a PI head, intake and cam swap relativly cheap. Or if your a blue collar guy like me im only doing the PI intake swap. PPl have said you can see gains up up to 20hp to the wheels. But im skeptical. None the less there are great gains to be had for the price. Ohh and an PI H/C/I swap will put you ahead of the 99-04 gts. Youlll be bumping your compression up to 10:5:1. Which will also mean i higher octain gas with the head and cam swap. None neaded for the intake swap alone. Just bolt it on and go.(have to do a headgasket thing or else itll leak, or but an adapter from livernois for like 300$) Also if you go to the trouble of swaping heads then id go ahead and spend some cash to have them worked. BIG gains to be had there. You could put down 320+ with porting and the works on the PI heads. Ohh and of course N02 will get you smoking hides quick. and of course a supercharger will rock as well.
Im rambling and have to go so go check out either www.corral.net/forums and ask away. Or http://www.modularfords.com/forums/ both have great tech!
Ohh btw , ill trade ya! lol i got a 96 vert gt but its a dark red. Which is fine but i love black mmmmm....ohh and mines a cobra clone ;) we both have good tastes huh:)

I allready have a 4.10 posi. rear, K&N air filter, 22% underdrive pully's, and 40 series Flowmaster's with high flow converter's, Borgwarner 5 Speed with Zoom Series 3 clutch
Right now I'm a little over 330 Hp. and 290 ft. lbs. of torque
I guess I have a decent start but what now?
And "Chrome ponies" is what I call my Stang's Hp Not really into nice and shiney, Just give me power!

330HP and you're not happy!! What more do you want my good man? With out useing nitros, supercharge, or turbo, I guess upgrade the ignition, chip, or hand held programer. If it's still not enough, tear the engine down and rebuild with hipo. parts. If all else fails, install a 5.0!!! GOOD LUCK

Tearing it apart is not really what I want to do. I am thinking Turbo or Supercharger. What do you all think would be best for stock internal's?
And sorry "5.what?" The fox body 5.0's are not much comp around here.

How did you get that much HP with exhaust and pullies?
Edit- ohh and stock for stock a fox will smoke a plumper Sn-95 gt any day. Plus there are more parts for the old pushrod engine.

no kidding i wouldnt think those mods would do that either... you get different heads from your stock ones? what about cams? i agree id keep the 4.6 over the 5.0, but they are both good motors.

thank god someone noticed that.....you won't gain anything close to those numbers with pulleys, an exhaust, and a filter. If you do have those numbers, look for a big shiny thing under you hood that makes a swooshing sound when you accelerate...

Yeah, you guys are right, I didn't even think about that. Hey tiny how did you get 330hp with just those parts? You should be around maybe 255-260, give or take a few. Also, where do you live that the 5.0's are not much to worry about? I think it was Demon who said stock vs. stock a fox 5.0 will eat up SN95 (your body style) all day. He's right about that because they weigh alot less. Don't even get me started on the LX coupes/notchbacks, they are the leightest. Even the SN95 5.0's were faster than the 4.6 SN95's. Then ofcourse 1999 came and Ford finally got thier act together as far as performance. As for the aftermarket/performance parts...forget about it, there is alot more for the 5.0. Remember I'm not doggin the 4.6, that's just the way it is. C-YA

How in the hell do you gain 115 horsepower and lose 10 lbs. of torque with just pullies, mufflers, and an air filter!?!?!
I'm sorry but I'm going to have to pull the :bs:

He is just taking a shot in the dark with his power rating. The gear selected it whould have increased his torque.

Well actually man^ it wouldnt have added any actual tourqe. It would only make you feel the tourqe quicker and in a tighter "band". If that makes sense....

Agreed with DemonHunter again. Gearing simply multiplies the torque to the rear wheels in given gears, it doesn't change the amount of torque produced through the engine

Gears don't make or create torque, they just simply distribute it differently.
What I was trying to say though is how can simple mods affect your horsepower so greatly and barely touch your torque? Not to mention touch it in a negative way.

I think we both mean the same thing, we're just reading it differently, maybe I was misunderstood.
I agree completely with your second statement here...no need to even touch on that
What I said about the torque and such was that it created no torque at the engine at all. It multiplies it at the wheels....not to say that it gives you any more, it just multiplies the ....ok yeah, you got me, i worded it wrong. It makes better use of your torque at the wheels is what i meant to say.

Of course they dont make torque, duh :)
Put a car on a dyno, run it with 2.73, then run it with 4.11. Is the torque going to be same? Nope, that is my point.

Actually if you want to be a technical ass (like me ) the torque is the same with both gears, just applied differently.
Don't worry though Skyline I'm not pissing in your pool...I brought Chlorine

I have not had the car but a week and I am still talking to the guy I bought the car off of and he is makeing me a list of all it's mod's cause i ask him if all it had was "a 4.10 posi. rear, K&N air filter, 22% underdrive pully's, and 40 series Flowmaster's with high flow converter's, Borgwarner 5 Speed with Zoom Series 3 clutch" and he said no but that was all he could think of off the top of his head.
P.S. I found a DiabloSport plug thing in the thing you plug up a computer to tell you what's wrong with the car do I need to take it out?

With stock internals.. go with a Whipple Supercharger, and keep your boost below 10psi... I did that with my 98' GT vert, and ran a reliable 380rwhp / 390rwtq and I still got 18mpg for over 2 yrs.
I sold that pony awhile back, and missed it so much I bought my current Mustang... 03 Cobra vert ... currently 430rwhp / 420rwtq!
Once you've been blown.. you'll never go back!! :D

A '97 4.6 won't make that power with those mods alone...it would have to have the PI heads at the very least...and nitrous to boot...But, to answer your question, a supercharger with the necessary fuel equipment (injectors, pump etc) would be a nice way to make a few more HP...if that's out of budget, then heads/cams/intake would really wake it up as well...

Fist every person here knows your full of it, you just want to look cool and this is one of the reasons us stangers get bashed. Also any person who lists off parts on the top of his head there probably the ons that cost the most or add the most performance.
for starters this is what you should expect there very rough estimations but good to see what your car has.
Underdrive pulleys -- 5 to 10 hp
Cat-back exhaust -- 10 hp
Headers -- 10 hp
H-pipe -- 5 hp
K&N-type air filter and remove air silencer-- 5 hp
Throttle body -- 5 to 10 hp
Intake manifold -- 15 hp
So you have around 235 to 240 hp not bad. For mods find our what is done to your exhaust. I've read article that cut of .97 sec on the 1320 with full spl ehaust, ceramic long tubes the full thing. Intake is your next step, if you don't quite have the green go to a salvage yard and look for 99-04 GT heads, intake manifold, throtle body and so forth. this will put your comp up to about 10.0 or acound the 10s. as we all no compresion is great for power. That or look for a 93-up Lincoln Mark VIII they have 4.6 DOHC engines 280hp stock pull out everyting you need, switching will be tricky but look around for people who have done the SOCH to DOCH swap. Thats for starter there is a lot of other things you would do like a mach 1 ram air conversion for your engine it will make your car look great. You can use Nitrous but remember you have to refill, and all that happens is at around 380* F when the gas cumbusts the Nitrus and Oxygen seperate alowing it to cumbust with the more fas you have to add. Blowers are great basicly do the same thing adds air, and at the ford sight you can get a desent blowere for $2200 - $2600 depending on type. That were inexpensive for a 4.6 L engine.
