My 1994 trans am was running fine, I stopped at a stop sign. It started to backfire and starting running on one or two cylinders? It turns over and has spark, it will kind of run/idle for a few seconds and seems to be only be working on a couple of cylinders for the short time it tries to run. Any suggestions on what it could be and where do i start? I used a computer to see if there were error codes for the problem the computer didn't show any error codes but it read 50 rpms but the car was not running?

if the computer registered 50 rpms and the car was off?? something could be wrong in the cars computer itself... but about the running on only a few cylinders? sounds like a problem in the distributor just to be safe i'd check it out and the coil

The 50 RPM thing thats normal. Unsure of the reason behind it but they all scan like that or atleast the 6 - 7 I scanned.
As for your running issue. Have you ever changed the cap and rotor?, could be a weak coil as well or a faulty ICM.

The cap and rotor was replaced by the guy who had it before me. This was done in 2003. I just purchased the car recently, it had been sitting since april. The car was low on gas about 1/8 tank when this problem occured. I checked the fuel pressure and its at 45 psi when i turn the key on and then goes down to 38psi when i turn the key off. Could this be a problem with the fuel pressure regulator or maybe even the fuel pump??

Thats normal as well. Your regulator is functioning perfectly based on those numbers. I would pick up a ignition coil (they are pretty cheap on ebay or a performance one may not be a bad idea threw summit) they range around 30 bucks and maybe replace the ICM, Those can be had cheap as well threw ebay of if you want I have one sitting around that will let you have for a couple of dollars. Also check the condition of your wires (both outer silicone jacket, as well as inside the boot for corusion) Then check a couple of your plugs against plug reference guide to see if maybe there foiled. Unfortunetly with your symptoms could be many things.

Also, if all else checks out. May want to check the injectors status,. Making sure they are all firing when they should be

I just got done changing the ignition coil. Still nothing...we tested the old one with a ohmmeter and it came up with nothing at all..just 0.0 and i read in a book that its supposed to read .3 to .6 ohms for the primary resistance and 5,000 to 7,000 ohms for the secondary resistance, and we also checked and it has power going to it. So i bought a new one and still it says 0.0?? I also just put new plugs in it. How would i check the injector status? and also is there a way to check if the ICM is bad?
