Viper Alarm System

Today I bought a Viper 350hv alarm system. It has power door locks (from remote), domelight supervision, truck/hood pop, ghost switch, shock sensors, disables the starter from cranking, etc. I was wondering how hard it is to install. It doesn't look that hard to install, but the directions are limited and they only show schematics. The thing is, I don't have much expierence in electrical wiring. I've done my deck, speakers, and subs. I'm just not sure if it's something that I could install myself or if I should take it to professionals. I'm just not sure if it's difficult to do or not. Also, does anyone know around what it would cost for the alarm system to be installed if I had to resort to that?

well if it has all of what you just mentioned there then id would take it to a shop and have them instal it for you, a small fee is better than you fucking up your car. plus if they mess up they usualy like guarantee their work

Depends on how hady you are electricaly. If you have the BCM schematics, you should be able to do it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "BCM" It has schematics, it's just not that detailed or anything. Also there are about 10 resistors in the kit and it doesn't show or tell you where they go. I think you're right and I'm better off getting it installed. I just don't want to spend $200 or whatever it is for it being done unless I have to. The system is only $233, but my friend hooked me up with a discount and I got it for $50, so I'm not complaining...err trying not to =)

It discombobultates the angulation of the ratostat.:screwy:

The BCM is behind the interior fuse panel. It controls most of interior electrical stuff.

Ditto..and it doesn't have the BCM schematic..although I have access to
Hyundai Webtech. I'm going to call around and get quotes tomorrow and prolly get it done. I don't want to screw my electrical system up and I'm not comferable doing it.

Are you making fun of me and my non-working, by-passed Rheostat? :crying: Nah j/p.

And as far the cost of pro install, most places, like if you have a Circuit City or Best Buy near you, only charge anywhere from 30$-60$. Usually on the upper end if you didnt buy it from them, but shouldnt burn your pocket too bad.

Yeah, I know. But I was bored and since I have no clue what the hell a Ratostat is, i figured I'd settle for the next word in line.

A ratostat is similar in function to whozitz but closer to a widget in appearance...:screwy::rofl:

yeah, you pretty much have to be fluent with schematics in order to be able to install an alarm with anything other than just the siren, brain, power, ground, and sensing wires. once you get into actually controlling things rather than just looking at things it gets crazy.

Ah yes, the infamous Whozitz. I took out one of those a while back. Pain in the ass to find.

Yeah I reallly got confused looking at the schematics. I can read them ok, but the alarm system was confusing. Yeah it cost me $107.50 for labor and another $30 for a part they needed so I can unlock the door by the remote. IMO it was worth it though. I'd rather pay that, then have my car broken into. The only thing I have left to do is buy a selaniod (or however you spell it) so I can put a hood pop on it. I don't get into my trunk much since it's just 2 12" subs that take the space up. So instead I'm making it so it pops my hood open on the remote. Why bother unlocking your car manually, when you can just press 1 button, hehe. :loser:

hood pop...hmmm...

its definately doable. i would just worry about heat on the solenoid, and also it being exposed to the elements. they are definately not made of stainless steel materials, so it would probably rust pretty quickly. the heat would just make it rust faster too.

i believe the thing they needed for you door unlocks was just a relay though, in which case, 30 dollars is FAR to much. i would have been able to ship one to you for 10.

Would you beable to get the solenoid? I don't think I sell them at Checker Auto..and i definally don't want to buy one from Quality Audio Sound..they are a fooking rip off on their audio stuff and alarm stuff.

i would have just got the solenoid from something like this...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-POWER-TRUNK-RELEASE-KIT-TRUNK-DOOR-POP-UNIVERSAL_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33696QQitemZ7 978170498QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

but i would definately reconsider the hood pop thing. the thing could rust to the point where you cant get your hood open at all. if you REALLY want to do it, try to find some kind of waterproof solenoid. maybe check out some boating stores or online shops. that'd be my best guess, but it will be more expensive. a 10lb. one should be just fine.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll definally keep that in mind when shopping for a solenoid. The guy at Quality Audio Sound said it would cost me about $75, so I think it's a good idea to buy it from ebay or maybe even the guy in that link. I mean he has 100% positive feedback with like 600 and some sales..thats badass.

I'm really not sure about that. You could very well be correct.
