turn signal clicking

I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta GLS with 50,100 miles that has been having some problems with the clicking noise for the blinkers. It just starts clicking for no reason it clicks fast, slow, all the time, every so often, one time, multiple times or wont do it at all. The blinkers don’t come on when it does this. I have had the hazard switch replaced twice and that doesn't seem to help. My dealership told me that it was an electrical problem and I would have to pay to have it checked and then make another appointment to have it fixed. I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do to stop this from going on. If anyone could let me Know I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Jason

It's the T/S and 4-way flasher relay (actually built into the 4-way flasher switch). It's something you could most likely replace yourself. Do a Google search on it.

theres a recall for the flasher switch. call the dealer and see if you qualify, if so its free!

.....bump.....My girlfriend just took hers in for the same reason. They told her that her car, an '02 jetta, was not covered under the recall. They changed the relay and still did not fix the problem, and told her that it could be a ground wire problem. It's kind of odd that it only clicks abnormally when it's not supposed to be on....it works fine when it's supposed to, and the lights don't flash when it's acting up. Any information you all may have would help out greatly.
BTW, it seemed to start acting up right after I changed the oil....I suppose it could be possible that I may have pulled on a wire or something.

Bump again.... Please more info... Anyone who is having this problem notice anything else going wrong? It started on my 2001 Jetta GLX Wagon just after an oil change also. I have just north of 80k (almost all hwy). This is VERY irritating. For those who have gotten a new relay, that has not fixed? Any additional insight?

check to see if the ground wire on the battery is clean and tight. Also remove the battery and tray and check/clean the grounds under the battery tray(remove the nut and clean with sand paper)
