Gotta know if this "Fluid" is aftermarket or personally introduced. Electric mirrors don't have liquid......

Kinda sounds like puss from a mirror infection to me. Maybe the truck needs some automotive antibitronics or something???

You know i think its at the auto parts store, right next to the blinker fluid, just above the muffler bearings. If im not mistaken its the same fluid that you use in your flux capacitor. As for cleaning off the dried fluid, you need 6 oz. of pixie dust

I've heard that that fluid in the auto dimming, outside mirror will stain the paint. I have no idea what it is, sorry.

Auto dimming is two wires plugged to an electrically charged plate on the back side of the mirror....

Could the liqued have been projectiled from a body when the dry heavs came on and the body hit the mirror in the state of confusion????? :spit:

My appologies!!! I did not intend to offend. What you might do is try contacting an auto body or paint shop and ask if the have an answer. If that doesn't work try your Chevy dealer and ask them. If nothing else, they'll be able to tell you if the mirror really does have some type of fluid in it and how to deal with it. If it does, there may be a need for them to deal with it for other reasons. Hope this helps!!!

Gentex uses its proprietary, solution-phase electrochromic technology. We sandwich an electrochromic gel between two pieces of glass, each of which has been treated with a transparent, electrically conductive coating, and one with a reflector. From the Gentex website.

This Gel is what is on his paint. Gentex is the maker of GM's Mirrors.

That's too bad dude. I had no idea about the fluid in the mirrors. Learn something new everyday. Hope you find a way to clean it.

For all the assholes who decided to be dicks about the subject because they thought they knew everything there was to know about effing cars and can't even take the time to apologize....you oughtta be ashamed.

EZ does it now!!! No need to start name calling. I don't think anybody intended to be offensive, even though it may have been seen that way. Everyone here takes their rides seriously and yes it does bite to have that happen. You really don't need to be passing judgement on people you don't really know. We all contribute and I'm sure if asked, we'd help a person in need, even you!! Peace Bro!!!

Call me what you will.... I asked questions and they may have seemed inapropriate but not intended that way. When I broke my signal mirror wide open in my '01 it never "Bled." That is why I asked for pictures and that was not returned.....

I am a smart ass, from birth. You can accept it, or not. If you decide not to, thats your loss :D Although I didnt reply to this thread, eveyrone likes to joke around a little. Lighten up everyone..lifes too short to be serious all the time. Not a single person here would refrain from helping, or at least trying.

Now I will brace myself for all the cussing posts I'm about to recieve

There's a big differance between being a smartass and an asshole!!! We have a lot of the first around here, but I'd have to hesitate any of us are really the latter (and don't sweat the bullets, their aim sucks anyhow)....and I still think it's a mirror infection....Nurse, start an IV!!!

Just an update, If you ever break an autodimming mirror get the fluid off ASAP!!!!. You can see where the fluid stained even polishing the paint. I put Some aftermarket trim on and it stained it beyond removal. Just to let people know. Thanks for your help.

Well, All I could find was this link!

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pcmirror.htm

Hard to believe they would put something like that in a vehicle that's exposed to extreme conditions. They may as well be putting Brake fluid in there.
Damn!

How many accidents and other hits on the mirrors have you seen and heard of and how many times have you seen the mirror bleed? "1 in 250,000" if you are lucky????? The mirros are in cars and trucks and the Feds know what it is..... I'll take my chances. Wait, I already did when I broke mine!!! No problems yet, maybe my third generation unborn will be defective...... :screwy:

I read somewhere just now to try acetone or lac thinner. Just be careful not to get either of them on any molding or plastic parts. Same thing happened to me....brown streak down my drivers side door (silver Tundra). Hell I'm an autoworker at a Toyota Plant here in KY and I had no idea auto-dimming mirrors had a corrosive fluid inside them! Honestly I didnt know my truck even HAD auto-dimming mirror until the damn thing broke. I've worked in the paint shop for Toyota for 24 years doing spot repair, bump and dents......and we used to be able to "bake" a stain like this out (usually some type of oil stain from equipment or robots) by spraying automotive paint thinner on the stain HEAVY and then heating it up with a heat lamp and baking the stain to the surface. Depending on the stain, sometimes had to repeat this several times. Then take a very fine (2500 or 3000 grit paper and sand the etching left behind out and buff back to a shine. I've not had time to try it yet on this mess. Hope it works. If so I'll post
