Heads suddenly flow to 314cfm. And the work was free. Combustion chamber is now 62cc instead of 64cc. New valvesprings, new bigger valves. 2.08 in and 1.60 out.

Mr. Luos

Lifters. Lunati
To clean them and have them saturated in oil when they get installed. I won't boil them, but I will warm the oil up nicely to help the air get removed.

Jesus, breaking bolts fucking sucks. So doesn't drilling and tapping ones when you break them in the threads.

If it isn't one thing....it is another.
The oil pump I have here is fucked up. The helix number in the pickup tube bolt is coming out. I can't torque the bolt to even 106 in/pounds. Now I get to try to deal with SLP and have this pump here by next weekend. Bet that doesn't happen.....

What I need today is a tap and die kit, and a helicoil kit. Maybe I can fix the oil pump so I don't have to deal with sending this one back.
FormulaLT1
09-18-2005, 09:03 AM
There isn't some place local where they sell the same model oil pump. So you can just buy another one and return the one you have thats broken?. Maybe not but here in central Jersey there is a speed shop every mile.
Mr. Luos
09-18-2005, 09:12 AM
Not so lucky here. There are only a handful of LT1/LS1 shops around here.
On top of that, it is a ported LS6 pump. Sold by SLP. The pump isn't a problem. Might have been the bolt as well. Either way, needs fixed. Problem is, SLP isn't the greatest about getting stuff out fast. I wanted to have the motor in the car next weekend, but that looks rough now.
The helicoil is backing out, should be able to pick up a kit for cheap and fix it myself.

HAHA!!
I should just send it to you, and have you go over there with it.
Hopefully this helicoil kit works. If not, I might just try to loctite the threads up there. The bolt would hold fine, just didn't torque down. Gotta do it today otherwise my dealer is calling SLP in the morning for me.

Personally, I'd beat the crap out of slp.... Its not worth it messing around with an oil pump, what if it doesn't work right and you wreck everything you put into it? SLP is great about shipping things fast to nh, wonder why they are so slow about going west?

I just don't think they will ship me a pump until they get the old one. Which will severely slow this build down. I was hoping to start it in 2 weeks from today. I bet I don't have a pump for 1 1/2 weeks.
damn, thats gonna be a bad ass car. and umm how did you get all that work done for free?
One of the head guys for the shop that did the work on the heads knows what motor the heads are going on.
There has been a dispute between the shop that built the motor and the shop that did the heads. They both want to look good here. Can't say I blame them.

Would be pretty close. This machine should make around 500 RWHP, hopefully a little better than that. Compression will be right around 11:1. Should make for a stout car even without boost or spray. 10's would be easy with the right suspension and slicks. Should be 11's on street tires. At sea level, trapping 122-124 MPH.

is the bolt alluminum? cuz if its going into an alluminum block and its hardened steel, it makes no sense that it would give... i would figure it would be alluminum except i would think alluminum bolts might not be strong enough... idk... maybe i'm thinking too much

I had a similar incident which was a really scary one at that, happened when i was insatlling the headers. The exhast manifolds were really rsted on, and the one of the bolts decided to break off inside the damn head. It was a real bitch getting it off. It came off abot 2hr later. Alot of time consming wrenching. I thogh i was gonna have to get a torch to get it off.

Mr. Luos
09-20-2005, 07:35 PM
If it hits 100, it would only be a couple days a year. We had a rough July and August, bunch of 100 degree days in there. Most of the summer we are in the 90's, and now we average about 83-85. I am sure we will have a couple more 90 degree days yet though.
The Grand Am runs off midgrade, Trans Am will do nothing but ping without premium. Plus, I doubt the Trans Am will be getting 27+ MPG when she is running again.
