I've got a 1994 4.6L V8. [Automatic Tranny] I just bought it 2 weeks ago for $1400 [Thought it was a good price as it had -just- been repainted with new interior put in] But anyway, The thing doesn't accelerate anywhere like it's supposed to. Mainly when just starting, but even at 55-60 when you push the pedal down it doesn't do anything. Same for manually tweaking the throttle, it just doesn't perform like it's supposed to. I thought it might be a vacuum leak but that wasn't it. [Not so much worried about performance, just the fact that I'm scared to pull out 'in front' of anybody because the thing has 0-60 of like 30 seconds..] Check engine light was on and that was for both o2 exhaust sensors. So, I figured maybe the engine wasn't getting a good mix so I replaced those, runs a little better but not like it's supposed to. I gave it a tune-up including air filter, fuel filter, oil filter, oil change, new plugs and wires, and a new PCV valve and that didn't help either. [Edit: The warmer the car gets, the less the problem, but no-where near fixed.] Any suggestions?

Also, the 1-2 shift is delayed, it'll shift into nuetral and then take a second or two to shift into 2, much longer than usual. But all the other gears shift perfectly fine. Suggestions? [I'm car-illitarate when it comes to transmissions, so go easy on me please!]

Also, All of a sudden I'll be driving and the car will start making noise and vibrating like I'm driving over one of those strips on the side to alert you you're driving off the road, but the second I let off the gas it stops. Suggestions?

Thanks, I really appreciate it, Please help me!

youve got a couple different problems. after tuneup and and replacing 2 of the o2 sensors(i do believe theres more than that; like 4 or 5 anyway at least three) is the check engine light still on? any codes?------but anywho i believe your first problem is maf.as you drive the car and it warms up it learns parameters for operation ie; open loop, fueltrim learn status and adjusts timing and fuel consumption accordingly. maf is probably giving false air readings and pcm compensates.-----second problem is probably 1-2 shift accumulator piston and spring. aode and sister trans 4r70w(99% sure it is the one you have) have a problem breaking the springs(there are two springs in there) and the aluminum piston tends to leak.there is an updated design on the springs and piston the piston is now made of stamped steel with integral seals. inexpensive and easy repair around $50 total. you need to remove the pan(which is helpful with third problem) and at the drivers side front inside pan area there is a snap ring holding th piston in remove ring and piston and springs noting order and replace with new updated design.---for third problem you have a trans shudder.. change the fluid (which means remove the pan and filter,i told you it would be helpful) and drain the torque converter( yes there is a drain plug on it and its behind the rubber plug in the bellhousing at the bottom) and use mercon v fluid and shudder will most likely be gone completely.......1400 was a very good deal

I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude but I'm not -That- advanced on automotives. I can do basic maintenance and such, but not quite like that. Could you be a little more.. less advanced? Thanks

i dont get offended easily----but----- those are pretty basic repairs i could talk u through it easily on computer or public library has mitchell guides you could read through--if u can change air filter u can change maf,, and if you can change trans fluid u can change 1-2 shift acc. piston and spring

Do you think you could walk me thru it? I would greatly appreciate it. I don't mean to come off as lazy but I live in a small town and we don't exactly have a library anywhere close.

Does anyone know where I can get the 1-2 shift accumulator piston and springs? I've called around to a few places and no one has them. Autozone, advanced auto parts, a few local auto parts places, etc. Thanks!
