Hi All, My first post---
I'm trying to test a Shift Lock Solenoid thats located under the front part of the center console. I have a Haynes repair manual for my 1996 Camry LE and it says to renove the rear part first, this was easily done. Then I removed the four screws(2 on each side)and tried to lift and pull out---it seems to be stuck on something right in the center above the ashtray---is there another screw?--I don't want to yank it out and snap the plastic-----please help!!!

Here are links to the repair manual pages. I don't see any fasteners that would hold you up.

"The repair manual was a bit vague---it did not say that the panels below the glove compartment and below the steering wheel had to come off first--
under those were the two screws that are referred to in the drawing---well i got if off and put a meter across the terminals of the shift lock solenoid and got @30 ohms specs are calling for 10-15 ohms. This might be why we are have a hard time getting the car out of park--and probs with the tail lights.---you think so??? would love to hear your opinion---glynn"

You had mentioned that you did not see what the solenoid had to do w/the taillights--the brake pedel switch & ignition switch are tied into this circuit--You have to press the brakes to change gear--then there is a computer and switch in there as well--all can affect the circuit to the tail light---
