Another Blower Problem

First I think I need to explain how inconsistent my mechanic is at diagnosing my previous blower problem. The Blower stopped working suddenly and I had my mechanic check it out. He put a tester to certain parts of the blower system, and told my my problem was the blower switch. Well I changed that, and still no blower, then he said its the resistor, which i changed and still no blower. Finally I got a new blower and now the blower works.

But now to my problem. Although the blower works and at its highest setting I can hear the blower working as it should, there is barely any air coming out of the vents. My mechanic said the blower needs a gasket. We couldnt find a gasket so he pulled the new blower back out and put silicon around it, and re-installed it. Still getting very little air out of the vents at high. He finally mentioned two other possiblities. He said the blower is suppose to have some type of drainage tube or hose in it (which i dont buy for a second because the orginal blower had no such tube or hose). Or, he said one of the blower doors may be stuck or one of the hoses may have come lose. I'm sorry for making this thread so long, but before I spend anymore money I just wanted to know if anyone in this forum could confirm what my mechanic is suggesting. Or, does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Thanks.

well this problem seems to be solved. does this make any sense to anyone? my mechanic tells me that because the blower motor was a rebuit motor, when they rebuilt it, they crossed the wires (this motor did not have a plug like the OEM blower motor did, it just had to wires). when he initially wired the motor to the car, he says he wired it wrong, then he re-wired it but he basically crossed the wires. I dont know how much sense this makes, but the blower motor works as good as the original did before it gave out.

The blower motor was turning in the opposite direction from what it should so it wasn't pushing air down through the ducts.

My mechanic told me exactly what you described 97Bird. Thanks!!!!

And believe me coondawg6, from now on, i'm gonna make sure he exercises patience. A little patience could have turned a 3 day job into a 1 day job. Not to mention save me $55 in unnecessary parts and labor.

yeh i see it all too often-- you should always get suspicious when he comes back with 2nd and 3rd reason why the same problem is happening
