6 bolt motor and turbo question

Anybody know how to tell the difference between a 6 and a 7 bolt motor, other than pulling off the tranny obviously? Also, how can i tell if i have a stock T-25 turbo? Just bought a used 97 GS-T and previous ower did some performace mods like full 3" downpipe and exhaust, MBC, and a boost gague. I think he might have swapped a 6 bolt in but im not sure and dont want to buy a 6 bolt if it already has one. I want to buy a K&N FIPK and intake tube but all the nice intake tubes are for larger turbos. I found some nice ones for stock turbo but i dont even know if its stock? stock intake tube fits but maybe its been modded or something? Thanks for any help.

6bolt-7bolt www.vfaq.com Oil pan check.
read the compressor housing and post up the #'s you see. I cant reamber what it says on the t-25.
If the stock intake tube fits then you dont need to worry about a larger intake just yet! Just find a FIPK, Injen, Dejoon tool that fits the 95-99 Turbo eclipse.

6 bolt intake manifolds have writing on them. A complete 6 bolt engine's turbo(14b) would have j-pipe not the welded crap like the t-25. But either way as long as the guy didnt throw in some insanly large turbo the k&n should work universaly.

the 14b on which is used on most 6-bolts will clearly say td05 on intake compressor side. If seller didnt mention anything about engine swap, you probably have a 7bolt. If he did swap to a 6bolt and left the t25 on, I would question his integrity. Plus, and engine swap is a pretty big deal and should've come with some type of paperwork.

I do agree that if the motor was swapped the seller would have mentioned it. If he did his own swap though I can't think of any paperwork he would have.

Yea i definately agree that the origanal ower would have said something about a 6 bolt swap but the problem is that i bought the car from a dealership that bought the car from a guy in tennessee. The dealership said they didnt know much about the modifications and i never talked personally to the previous owner. Oh well, guess i better go look for some numbers on the turbo and intake manifold. thanks for the help, ill post the numbers as soon as i can.

well i looked at the intake manifold and turbo and didnt really see any type of letters or codes or anything. sucks. i was hopping it was a 6 bolt so that i wouldnt have to swap it myself. gonna check the oil pan tomorrow and find out for sure. and yes, endlessheart666, the K&N FIPK will fit just fine, its the actual intake pipe itself that i wasnt sure about, but if the stock intake tube fits on it im sure its a T-25.Oh,i had another question for somebody, has anybody used a TurboXS Dual Port BOV? i really was to vent to atmospere, just for the sound,(call me ricey but i love a good blow off)but i dont want the engine stuttering and dieing everytime i shift. just wondering how well the dual port BOV works as far as sound and if it stalls any, seems like a good idea, being able to vent and recirculate, but does it really work?

I'm not sure what you mean here, but in case it helps, the stock inlet pipe also fits over the 14b/16g turbos. Usually without the spacer ring though IIRC.

so the inlet size on T-25, 14b, and 16G turbos are all about the same size? and what is the inlet size?i think its 2.75" but i could be wrong.

Close enough to the same size that the stock inlet pipe fits over them. It is rubber after all. I never measured any of them. The 14b and 16g use the same compressor housing, so it makes sense the inlet would be the same.

I have an Apexi Dual Chamber BOV which is basicly the same thing as that turboxs one as in mine vents to the atmosphere. I like it sounds good I guess, and I haven't had any problems with it yet atleast that I know of. But I have recently problems that are due to something else but I was planning on buying a greddy bov recirculating bov anyway, so if you want to wait a lil I can see you my old apexi one for real cheap. Ohh mine just vents not recirculates. but I haven't had any problems with it.

ok defiancy, let me know how much you want for the Apexi BOV when you get the Greddy one and ill see if we cant work something out. one quick question, you said you havent had any problems with it, the motor never stalled or came really close to stalling? I took off the dump tube hose on my stock BOV to see what it sounded like venting and every time i would let off the gas and not get right back on it, the RPMs would drop really low really fast alost stalling it. it actually did stall a few times while test driving it. you never had any problems like that with the Apexi BOV?do you have your MAS or MAF or whatever th hell its called(the air flow meter) after the turbo or in the stock locatin?

Nope never had any problem with it at all, doing anything with what you said. If you want sound the apexi is about the best you can get. But you have to understand you stock bov and an aftermarket bov are different no matter what you do. I have had no complaints at all with it. And I have no mods to the MAF at all.

Aweome, sounds like Apexi is the way to go. what kind of sound does it make? a high pitched "sneezing sound, or a low, loud woosh? Oh and can it be installed withouthaving hard IC piping?

No it's a low loud woosh. And yes you can install it on the stock IC piping. It has an adapter for it.

sounds great, let me know when you get your Greddy and if i havent gotten a new BOV by then, let me know how much you want for the Apexi. Also, is there any way to tell the difference between and 2g and a 1g BOV? i think the guy who had the car before me put on a 1g BOV because it dosent seem to leak under boost. is there any way to tell?

1g BOV is metal with a 2 bolt flange, and the 2g unit is black plastic with no flange.
