Info Needed ASAP!!!!

I just got back from an auto auction tonight and I bought a 1986 Saab 9000 Turbo 5 spd with a sunroof. It has a 2.0 L 4 cylinder in it but I bought it for like 300 dollars and it doesn't run (I think it needs gas) it turns over good and such. What I'm wondering is if there are any constant problems with these cars or anything popular to mess up on it or did I get lucky and find a decent car with potentially good gas mileage?

Relibale, fast (Turbo and 5-speed) , and safe car! Do you have a large RED plate that says "Direct Ignition" on top of the motor. This is the DI cassate and they are very often the no start situation with these cars? Have you done a compresion check?

sorry to burst your bubble, but an 86' 9000 is not good or reliable. it will be in the shop all the time. i have been working on saabs for quite a few years now and have yet to see an 86' that i would let anybody drive. its worn out. you are best to part it out. you should be able to recoup your $300. does anything work on it? i would like to see the puddle that leaves on the driveway.

I got it to start up after I changed the distributor, coil, and plugs and I'm glad to say that it leaves no puddles in the driveway, no knocking but DAMN does this thing smoke, in the fourty mile trip to my house it uses four and a half quarts of oil and my car that someone else drove back to the house has oil all over the front of it. This thing has good compression so I think the turbo may have some messed up seals in it or something.

sounds like a leaking/worn turbine shaft seal. will need a new turbo. make sure you clean out the intercooler and intake system. it will be full of oil. the exhaust is probably saturated too. be carefull. parts are still pretty spendy for this car. you will have a lot of money wrapped up in thing that you could have spent on a decent car.

Take it apart and spray Throdle body cleaner through everything! Just make sure not to hit the MAF sensor!

If you live in teh Northeast these cars are pretty easy to find at the junk yard for the parts you need!

Someone said to part it out, well I would have NO problem doing so except I own one of two Saabs that I've seen on the road, the other one I saw was a 9-5 and it was in South Carolina, unfortunatly I live in alabama where these cars are virtually non existant.

That is what Ebay is for bro! You are right SAABs are rare in the South. I would keep it just for that reason! But if you must part it out and get your money back then have a junk yard pick up the shell for scrap metal.

being rare is a bigger reason to get rid of it. no matter where you go down there, nobody is going to know about it, parts are goiong to be harder to find, junkers are going to be rarer also (to rob parts from). it is going to be a money pit. if you are concerned about how much this car is going to cost or how much it is going to be in the shop, get rid of it. i guarantee it will be in the shop nearly constantly and there are hardly any cheap parts for that car.

NO SHIIIEEETTT!!!! I priced a clutch kit and THE CHEAPEST I've found is like 300 dollars, The FUCKING HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY costs 358 plus tax, And people down here are literally afraid to do tranny work on it.

i forgot to tell you that it will probably need a new clutch master cylinder and hydraulic lines too. that really racks up the costs. i am telling you, i work on them for a living and i wouldnt touch that car with a 10 foot pole. no way!
sorry! just because something is rare, doesnt make it great.
i could make a huge list of common problems with that car, but it would take too long and it would cost so much, you could buy a new car for cheaper. did youo ever find a turbo? how much? i am guessing around $800 for the parts and a few hundred more for labor. good news about the ignition modules though. they just got real cheap. you can get a brand new one for around $250. used to be closer to $450.
