2000 Lumina TCC stuck on

I have a 2000 Lumina that was acting up on occasion, and registered a trouble code that said the torque converter clutch was sticking on in the transmission.
I guess the TCC is controlled by a solenoid that can stick and may need to be replaced, is there anything else I can check before tearing into the tranny to replace this solenoid? Has anyone done this, and how hard of a job is it? I have done a lot of engine work but limited transmission work, but I would like to fix this myself, so if anyone has any advice on this I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Bob

This should be scanned with a trans capable bi directional scanner that can command the tcc on and off, this will confirm whether the solenoid is the problem.

I think I have narrowed the problem down to the TCC solenoid sticking on, and I need to replace it. Where is the solenoid located, is it a major job to replace it? Any advice on this is appreciated.

The solenoid is in the auxiliary valve body inside the trans side cover.
