Transmission Problems

I have a 1990 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible...Beautiful car, but a piece of work ever since I got it. It has a problem shifting into 2nd gear, and also when you shift from park to reverse it takes a few seconds before it clicks in. I am planning on having it flushed and replace the fluid with ATF+4, which I heard is what it requires. Is that right? and how many quarts does it take? can anyone help me?

your transmission should hold about 4.5 quarts. And yes Mopar ATF+4 is the only fluid to use on your car. If you use anything else, you're asking for trouble. Also try to get your TCM flash programmed. It may need to be updated so to avoid it going into "limp mode".

If u get it flushed then it will take about 10 quarts, 4.5 is just for a pan drop.

Well, if u flush it it will take about 9.1 qts with the 3.0l and A604. Using atf+3 won't hurt it. with the 2.5 and a413, it will be 8.9 for a flush. and for the 2.2 it is 8.9 for a flush. The only reason that it will go into limp mode is if you get an air bubble in the system, usually caused by forgettingabout the o-ring or getting excited and shifting through gears before it is full. while your at it throw in some lubegard atf protectant.
