Knocking at startup

Hi,All
Am having a bit of a problem with my 1994 Mercury Topaz with 52,000 miles on the odo. Its been going on for a few months now,but,everytime I start my car in the morning,i get a knocking sound from the engine. After the car has been running on the road for maybe 5 minutes,the knocking stops,and the engine runs well.Any ideas?
