2002 Mustang GT vs Taurus

My friend has a 2002 Mustang GT 5spd, K&n intake, american thunder cat-back. He's been talking so much trash about how bad he'd smoke my Taurus. There's not much I can do because I'm under the impression that I'm no match for a 2002 GT Stang, so I pretty much had to just sit back and take it. My only mod at the time was an off road Ypipe.

Well, one day I got fed up with the smack talk and said lets go to the highway, I don't care if I lose, because I know I'm going to.

We started from a 20mph roll and I beeped 3 times and went. I got a tiny jump because he was a lil slow starting after the 3rd beep. I made a really bad shift into 2nd gear and lost all the momentum I had on him. He was sticking at my read quarter panel. To my suprise he wasn't catching up. I shifted to 3rd and noticed he was still back there, and it even looked as if I was pulling a tiny bit. I hit 4th around 100mph and I still had about 1 car on him (his front bumber even with my rear bumper). I brought it all the way up to 120 and he was still back about 1 car.

He called me on the cell and was completely shocked. He said lets go from a 40 roll and the outcome will be different.

So we lined up again from a 2nd gear roll, about 40 mph. I beeped 3 times and we both went at the same time. I was inching a little. Inch by inch he found himself at my rear quarter panel again. We took it up to 120ish when he started to gain back. By 135 he had to shift into 5th, basically leaving him a sitting duck as my 4th goes to 145mph, had we kept going. We both stopped, with him about a fender back at 135.

He called me back up to admit defeat, and to apologize for all the trash talk he had been dishing out over the passed few weeks. Needless to say, he doesn't talk anymore trash about the Slow SHO. :)

Also the people of AF will only call BS if there's any suspician...such as a turbo echo... An SHO beating a GT isn't anything new, just about anything can beat one.. kidding

yeah this forum isnt like the little asshats on jbody.org. We can weed out the liars from the truth tellers pretty quickly. Then we ban the liars. This is a great community, and its really nice to not have to worry about backing up every street story you tell cause some dumb kid says in his mind, he bench raced the race, and you lost.

But welcome to the forums.

Just cause you wanted it ya know? Welcome to AF. I agree with skeet_racer, nice camera work. Just a Y-Pipe and you gave that Mustang one hell of a time, I'd never think it from a Taurus, but an SHO, had no idea they were that quick. Awesome vid.

Awesome race. I've always loved SHO's. I kind of equate them to the 1990 Beretta GTZ, and 1992 Sentra SE-R I used to own - only a few people really know about them, and the type of cars in its family, makes it underrated to everyone else.

Awesome vid...nice kill..

I am stil baffled on how you even beat..and hanged with a mustang 4.6 that has more power/tq to the wheels...and weighs less...i think..

I think the sho is like 3300curb while the gt is 3200..i could be wrong though, maybe the sho's got good gearing.

EITHER way, i always loved sho's...from the early v6's to the newer v8's.

Once again, awesome..welcome to AF and keep the kills coming, just be careful..

Really? That is crazy that he beat him. The SHO has less horsepower/torque than the Mustang, is a little heavier and slower to 60 and in the quarter by about 1 second. Wonder what the race would be like if they went from a dig?

You're forgetting that he isn't stock, and has 199 wheel horsepower, and 192 wheel ft-lbs of torque.

Stock Mustang GT's of those years put down roughly 230-235whp. And 260-265wtq. If the Mustang that he raced was stock it's conceivable that he'd be able to win in a race from a roll.

Also, have to take into account that racing from a roll is all about Horsepower, RPM and aerodynamics. Their power figures aren't all that far off. I'm sure the SHO motor can turn higher RPMs, meaning it can make the same power longer and in turn go faster. And, I'm willing to bet the SHO has better aerodynamics than the blunt boxy front of a Mustang.

My take on the situation.

The redline on the V8 sho was 6800 RPMS, it made its max HP of 235HP@6100 RPMS.

So you saying that engine doesnt love to rev?

Lets not mag race ;)

My car went 14.8 @ 95 bone stock (which is very common with healthy SHO's), 14.3 @ 97 with just a catless ypipe, clutch, and motor mounts.

The Mustang I raced recently dyno'd 230whp 260wtq with his k&n and cat-back exhaust. On the same day I dyno'd 210whp 203wtq with the same mods as the 199whp dyno, but I had maitnence issues on that day, ironically enough, the 199whp dyno day was the exact same day I raced him.

Stock Mustang gears are 3.27's or 3.23's I cant remember which. He has to shift at 6000rpm while I shift at 7400rpm. My cars gearing is 3.74:1. He weighed in at 3390 with 1/4 tank of gas, I weighed 3250 with a half tank of gas.

He ran a 14.2 @ 97 at the track, the same day I ran 14.3 @ 97. From a roll I take him though. His 60' was a 2.10, mine was a 2.25.

Thats about as much info as I can recall lol

In his defense, Dampy really wasn't. He was a cool kid. I know he could be an ass, but really, he was probably one of the coolest guys I know here. Most people just took him the wrong way.

I'm surprised most people don't bash on Jayson more often for being the way he is. Nothing personal Jay, but really, I find you to be more of a jerk than Dampy was. Sure he was cocky, but what do you expect from an 18 year old? I look at him as just being testy. I'm sure a good amount of us were cocky at that age. I know I was, but hey, it's just the maturing process if you look at it from that aspect. Anyway, not to hijack the thread, but Dampy was and is a good friend of mine, regardless of what anyone else thinks. It was really only a few people here he disliked. And it were those few that seemed to pick at him the most and cause arguements. Anyway, I'm just defending a friend. Like most of you would if others were bad mouthing them. So, just let that be as I said. Don't take it as anything else than me defending a good friend.

I like this, guys that back up their stories with concrete numbers...should happen more often.
You got a 1/2 second shaved off with your y-pipe? Lucky bastard, I got about 1/4 of a second with mine :disappoin 210 horsepower to the wheels is like what, around 245-250 to the crank? So you got like 25-30 hp from just a y-pipe? Sounds like you found a car that responds well to mods.

Well, the motor is rated 220hp. I'm thinking thats a little under-rated. 230-235 is a more likely number. The ypipe added a really nice chunk of power for 1 mod.

The stock ypipe has 2 cats on it, is 2'' piping, and has an UGLY 90 degree bend. The one I have, has no cats is 2.5'' pipe, and is equal length mandrel bent, with no ugly 90 degree bend. I'd say I picked up between 10-15 crank horse, and a much better power curve with this mod alone. It makes above 200whp from 5000rpm all the way to 7400rpm. Part of shaving .5 off my time was also due to the better clutch I got, newer tires, and solid mm's. The car was alot easier to launch than when I first wen't to the track. Also, when I went when I was bone stock, I wasn't exactly a great driver, as I was fairly new to the car.

LMAO i know im an asshole. But it just kinda bugged me that he tells me that, what did you think i didnt know there were 2 different SHO engines? I was just stating that because normally if a car models engine changes, they try and keep similar characteristics. I mean a 230 HP SHO that sells good is prolly gonna be really close in engine performance as the next model/ engine.

BUt whatever, i know i need some anger management classes,. i really do.

So because I'm friends with the guy that gives you the right to say "what did his dick taste like..." ? You just lost a lot of respect from me Cassies. Like I said, I was defending a friend. And also like I said, most of you just didn't know him. I talked to him outside of AF you know. Got to know him, and I plan on hanging out with him when I go back East. What's the harm in that? Dude. STFU. Seriously.

I understand he was your friend, and that is fine, but if you cannot see the forest for the trees, as far as your friend's attitude, then good for you. Just don't think we'll swallow this "misunderstood" bull-crap. Maybe we did indeed, "not understand", but that's because he didn't have the (online) social skills to convey himself, or his opinions, without pissing somebody off. Don't blame us, or try and pass this guilt around about "so and so is just as bad - why didn't he get noticed?" - that just shows your youth - which is maybe why you and him get along.

Try not to bring him in to conversations where he doesn't belong - it's just annoying.

He's not respecting ours, by bringing up dead issues, that should be left alone. It's not going to bring the guy back, and it just rehashes old issues, not to mention he calls out another member - does he want the same thing to occur to that member?

I respect everyones opinions here. I've never had any problems with anyone unless they've had a problem with me. And really, it was my opinion that I thought Jayson is a bigger jerk than Dampy was. I'll say it again, I was defending a friend. He's not exactly here to defend himself you know. I just don't like people saying bad things about a good friend behind their back or when they can't defend themselves. I know a lot of people here didn't like Dampy, and I can't make anyone like him. I know that. But it wasn't me who brought up his name or called anyone out at all. I get along with Jayson fine, I don't have any problems with him at all. He knows he's an ass, everyone tells him every now and then. He's not hurt by it. If he is by my comment alone, then I apologize to him.

It wasn't my intention to even bring up a dead issue. A few members just brought up his name, called him an "asshole", so I just wanted to say drop it and forget about his name. If you look at it as me trying to make someone else look bad for his sake, then please, look at it as me defending a friend. I've always took pity on the underdog, and in this case, I find Dampy to be the underdog. Oddly enough, I did the same for Burntrice when he came back his second time. But, this issue doesn't need to become the main topic of this thread. So, either we close it, or make one hell of a comeback to get back on topic.

OR

You can PM them.

Whichever's easier for you.

Now, let's get back on topic.

PS: You have NO say in the matter, when he brings up his own name, if, and when he signs up again as a different name. I will ridicule, laugh at, get annoyed at, and ban him to my heart's content, at that point. Redneck383 will probably do the same.
