This comming from a 4 cylinder honda owner.

See, I'm was a new driver. I unline most young honda owners don't beat on my car, but I'd never think to beat on a truck, either.

So, after getting used to the Honda, I realized I needed something with leg room. My father let me take his 2003 Silverado Single cab Short bed(think a 5.3l V8) for a ride to see if it fit my fancy or whatever.

I found the truck to be quite quick and was amazed it could chirp the tires from a roll. I met up with a friend with a V6 mustang(riced out and the sort). Well, he could leave me in the dust when I had my civic, but we met at a light where you have to merge in the road ahead. Well, his hollowed out sounding 3.something litre engine with flowmaster exhaust revved at me and I gave it to him when it went green. He got a jump but I instantly pulled on him, almost a car by the end of 1st. Him and I were both surprised, but he had one of those old 150hp V6 stangs from the mid 90's. It felt so nice to shut him up though....

Do you think I should go for one of these, with the potential of adding just a few bolt ons, such as a nice sounding exhaust, intake, maybe a small nitrous setup, seeing as a friend of mine has installed a few with very good outcomes? My father had no opinion to give, but do you have any issues with this truck in day to day driving? I really enjoy it, with the ice cold A/C and big engine, but who knows....

I also love the fact that it can snap me back in my seat a bit compared to the docile Civic.

Having it in 1st and goosing the throttle can give me some kicks for at least a month or two.:P

Well you are talking to a biased group of people here. But, yes These trucks are good vehicles. Just keep in mind that your gas mileage is going to go down a little. Trucks, especially chevy's, are more expensive to buy, than a majority of vehicles of the same year. The cost makes up for it in insurance, for most people trucks are cheaper to insure.

With great trucks, comes great responsibility. Once you buy your truck, people are going to want your help. You will have suddenly more friends than you thought you ever had.

The silvy's are very moddable, They can be raised or lowered, made to go fast or made to tow incredible weight, the choices are only limited to your imagination and your wallet.

Go buy a chevy truck!

Apples and oranges!!! That's the comparrison between ricers and hot trucks. If you enjoy the truck, go for it...but I suggest you hang around here and check out as many posts as you can and see not only what mods are done, but why we do them and what we want out of our rides. To put it out there in brief, this isn't just a different type of vehicle, but a different culture altogether. Also, bear in mind we come in a wide viriety of truck owners, but damn most of us sure love our Superados!!! As one person said here recently, "choose wisely grasshopper!!!
By the way, about 2-3 weeks ago, I smoked a rice-burning honda at night coming out of midtown Sacramento (I think he was a bit low on speed mods). It doesn't happen very often, but man I sure enjoyed it!!!!

If you really like it I say go for it. To be honest, I've never been a Civic fan or ricer fan for that matter. Don't like the sound or the feel of front wheel drive. I would just make sure you have the funds to feed the tank. Right around $70 to fill her up from empty. But they're fun to drive and a blast to see peoples face when you beat them in a race. In the city I've average anywhere from 12.5 - 15 mpg, normally 16-19 on the highway. My uncle in Florida with a 5.3L drives all highway and gets 21.6 mpg. And that number he said has grown from 20 something.

I say if you like it and can afford it, get it. Also test out the ext. cab just to see if you prefer one over the other. Good luck with your decision.

One last thing. It's nice to see someone with a fuel efficient car not come in here and start down-talking about the gas-guzzling, polluting, yada yada talk. :thumbsup:

i have been driving an 88 honda accord while restoring my 73 chevy pickup and all i can say is i dont care what the gas costs, i want to drive my truck again lol. and also, the hondas from that time period may have long lasting 87 horsepower engines (yeah, 87), but the automatic trannies are pieces of crap. the one i drive now has 85k miles and the tranny is on its last leg already. i beat the crap out of my truck before when i used to use it as a daily driver and it never clunked on a shift hardly ever. and thats the OLD turbo 400 that is supposedy neanderthalic and outdated. well, at least it lasts a few hundred thousand miles lol. besides, nothing beats the roar of a small block or better yet a lopey big block chevy. ill pay the gas prices just for that loud deep rumble lol

I agree with everyone else, if the wallet can handle it go for it. There is a lot of good info on these trucks here in this forum, and a lot of good people also. We happen to be a very loyal bunch. I love my Silverado to death, and I couldnt imagine not having it, but like it was said before and trust me being in the military I have made lots of 24 hr friends. Hey can you help me move(oh well). The trucks are highly moddable, it doesnt take much work to make lots of power and man does it feel good beating these stupid import racers. Well good luck deciding and like it was said before read through here and see what you think.

The silverado is just a plane ole great truck. I have a 2004 4.8 V8 with exhaust and intake, and the power is great. Speaking of that (directed towards everyone now), the other day, a friend and I were cruising down a backroad (he has a Camaro SS, very fast) and he wanted to see what my truck could do. So we're cruising in third, and I floor it. It kicked down to first and threw us both back, we both were suprised with my little 8. The Silverado is great for everyday driving, and I would highly recommend you find a nice one.

Trucks are less likely to be involved in street races (In insurance company eyes). They are safer to drive than cars, your less likely to get hurt and have medical costs. There are more reasons but simply, There are fewer insurance payouts with trucks, so Insurance companies charge a little less....in most cases.

My new '05 LS VHO 6.0L is $1 more a month than my '01 LT 5.3L. They did not see it as a risk even though the vin tells the insurance company what it is. That was a big factor in my being able to afford my toy. Go Figure..........

I say go for it. I use mine every day from either hauling things, to hauling ass, or even taking it on a date or somewhere nice. I'd personally get an x-cab though, my reg cab has gotten to small for me.

Being a once 4-banger owner myself, i think these trucks are amazing. I had a little dinky sunfire, dont talk about it much (lol), anywho, then got a 2-dr blazer, and now have a reg cab 03 and i love it. Its got plenty of power, sounds great, and looks kick-@$$ to boot. So, i guess i'm with everybody else, sayin go for it! doubt youll be disappointed.
