Hi all,

I have a problem with my 87 350 TPI Camaro Z28...

My fuel pump doesn't seem to have any power going to it. I have checked the lines going back to the fuel pump relay and ECM (Pin A1) and there is no power coming out. Anyone have any ideas on what i can try next??? I have tried looking online for some diagnostic manuals but I can't seem to find any.... Any help is appreciated!

there's a fuse for the fuel pump under the hood on the passenger side fender next to the battery, it looks like a harness plug, pull it out and there will be a fuse there.

Go under the car and find the connector going to the fuel tank. Dosconect and try connecting one of the pins to the battery and ground the other. I dont really remember which ones (but look it up in a manual) And see if it makes noise in the tank. If not than the brushes in the pump are worn out and sticking. Change the pump.( I would cut a whole in the body to get it out) If the pump runs then its some bad ground somewhere. Also I believe thres a test connector somewhere under the hood as well.

The pump is a simple electric motor, the tests will work. (all ECM does is just grounding it at the right time) They fail all the time after 130000 miles.

Also ths relay will not cause the pump not to run. It might not prime but it will run. And that bad connection at the comp is not likely to have problems.

Both fuses might be your answer.

Also if there is no power to the pump from ECM the relay is probably burnt (the pump wont prime). The power will be there if the engine is running. I say replace the relay because they are a crapy design.

Any codes on the ECM?

Don't need the relay to get power to the pump. Pull the connector off of the oil pressure SWITCH (2 prong connector) and run a jumper from pin to pin on the connector. Have someone turn the key on...The pump should be running. If it isn't, replace the fuse in the engine compartment, located by the battery, follow the positive wire until it branches off to a smaller wire, it leads to a plastic housing held to the fender, pull the base off the housing and the fuse is in the base.

Geez, 3 (ssemingly, at least to me) VERY different answers. Good luck... and why would you pick "blowsjim" for a screen name.

The pump is dead no doubt. And the pump will run without a relay too.

Well boys... Thanks for all the input. The problem was the Fuel Pump Relay.

Just a little breakdown for anyone that might google this after.

The fuel pump gets power from the relay(to prime and run). The relay is just a switch that will supply some power to prime then the ECM (Pin A1) takes over when the car is running.

The reason i was not getting power to the fuel pump relay from the ECM was because the car was not running... (Easy is say now, but hard to say when all you have in your head is.... F@#k F@#k F@#k F@#k F@#k F@#k)

So hope this little blab helps someone out in the future... And thanks for all help again...

Here is also a little description on the five wires for the Fuel Pump Relay

Camaro Fuel pump relay
.....5 conductor connector located near the brake booster on the inner fenderwell
.....A term- 120 Tan w/ white stripe.....fuel pump signal wire to PCM pin B2
.....B term- 450 Black w/ white stripe.....Ground lug also connected to PCM pin A12
.....C term- 465 Dark green w/ white stripe.....12v drive power switched by PCM pin A1
.....D term- Orange.....fuel pump test wire to ALDL "G" term thru 15 way "IP" connector
.....E term- 340 Orange.....12v power from PCM pins B1 and C16
