Timing Belt on Rodeo

I have a 97 Rodeo manual with the 4 Cylinder, and have the original timing belt along with original brakes and clutch. The truck has 150,000 miles and runs great and the water pump was changed at around 100,000 miles and the timing belt was said to have been fine. I realize I am way overdue according to the manual, but should it be changed since is sounds and drives fine? I have read other posts on this all over the boards.

Time to change it. You can't always tell by a visual inspection if a t-belt is going bad. Better to do it now then have to get towed home.

You will smash the intake valves if the timing belt breaks on the fly on this engine (interferance engine). It's cheaper to replace the t-belt, associated hardware and make sure the waterpump is good to go!

I personally couldn't see how a 4-cylinder could pull my 97 Rodeo, with all of it's accessories, but you seem to be doing good and you still enjoy it.

That little 4-cylinder must have more pep then I thought.

How's it loaded down?

I thought the Rodeo is a non-interference engine?! I don't know myself, but I could swear I have read that a few times on these forums. I am at 110,000+ and need to change my timing belt, so I sure hope it is a non-interference engine, or else I better get moving. You see, I have this problem with procrastination when it comes to my vehicles. :screwy:

Any of the 4cyl rodeos are interference.

They are absolutely horrible if you are used to driving 6cyl or V8 trucks. MPG is not great for the 4cyls either. They are cheaper on inital purchase and tend to be cheaper to maintain, those are the plusses.
