Block Heater

Just had the Blazer in for a oil change & I was informed that my block heater is not working. They said they had tested it and that they would look at it next time around, closer to the Canadian winter. He said it may be the cord..or the heater itself.
Is this somthing simple to fix if all it takes is replacing the cord..or the heater unit itself?
This is in a 99 LS 4x4

Yeah, I agree BlazerLT, I would inspect the block heater cord carefully for new cuts ASAP.

I debated whether or not to reply to this post since we don't need block heaters in Arizona. I wouldn't know what a block heater looked like if it bit me in the Arse. It could easily be a scam as there are many unscrupulous mechanics and garages out there, But ya know, maybe the guy found a decent garage that tries to help their customers and is simply trying to give a little customer service.

How many times have you gone into a garage for say an oil change and they come back with a list of things that they recommend to be looked at or replaced? My experience is that it happens at almost EVERY garage, EVERY time.

Before we start looking for crooks behind every torque wrench, I'd be leary yes, but give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

Sounds like a mechanic is trying to make more money.

How hard is it to replace a Blazer Block Heater.. mine is shorting out the fuse box in the house when I plug it in.
Where should I check for a short? How? Is it easy to replace? I live in Canada eh! and I need it!
