i currently have a sony deck in my prelude giving each speaker about 55 watts. If i upgrade to new 70 watt speakers with no amp, how will it sound?? and will i need an amp for them to run good???

as long as you're in the rms range, you'll be fine

For any head unit it it will only put out about 80-85% advertised power before it beings to clip. So putting in some speakers that will handle 70 watts will be fine, they will sound alright, just make sure that you dont run the deck up past 90% volume, (because you got new speakers and you want more sound), because it will (1) send a lot of streaming distortion to the speakers and (2) it may clip and if it does you can damage the speakers. But your question, yes it will sound very crisp and clear.

but these speakers (blaupunkt overdrives 6.5") are 70 rms, so if th deck is only puttin out 50 watts i figured that it wouldnt be enough to push the speakers right, but thatnks for the help

although the speakers say they can handle a rms of 70 watts, they don't need it to sound good. the only thing is that, like caboarder2001 said, if you turn it up too loud, you will have horrible quality because your cd player doesn't have enough power to go so high.
