Would having 16" rims make my speedometer off? I know the cherokkes came stock with 15" rims.

It's not the size of the rim that will throw off the speedo, it is the overall height (diameter) of the tire that will do it. (see Link: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm ) More than likely when you put on the 16" rims, you also put on new tires that are larger diameter than your old ones.

Mrbill hits it on the nose.

Many people go to larger rim sizes then use lower profile tires to retain close to the original diameter. It gives that "bling" look. Lot's of chrome (or polished alum) and the illusion of being low slung.

However, with Jeeps, many use the bigger rims to mount bigger tires usually in conjunction with a lift. If you do, you'll need to change the speedo gear to compensate for the overall difference. Otherwise, you'll need to put little sticky notes all over the speedo to mark the new speeds (I've seen someone do this). lol

Here's another tire size calculator. It allows you to input the tire properties (width, profile and rim size) and will compar it to other tires. Gives some good comparison data relating to the speedo.
