1990 2.3L help

I got this truck with the motor in pieces the previous owner said that he thought the head gasket was blown. What I need is help figuring out how to put this motor back together, possibly a fsm? I also would like to know if there is anyone that has swaped the motor for something else, and what would be a good candidate for this truck. Any help would be appreciated. Andrew
