Anyone know why my car would hesitate at acceleration only once in a while? Only on in town driving.????

What year and engine are in your car?

Could be numerous things, fuel restriction, bad fuel pressure regulator, bad injectors, dirty throttle body, bad throttle position sensor, slow oxygen sensors, out of range Mass Airflow Sensor, dirty air filter, out of range coolant temperature sensor, bad spark plugs, bad plug wires, bad battery, weak alternator, etc.

Do you only notice the hesitation accelerating from a stop, or even while going down the road if you step on the throttle?

Any idea if your exhaust is rich or lean when it hesitates? A scan tool with the "Datastream" function should be able to show this, as well as many of the other parameters.

With as little as we have to go off of currently, I'd suggest starting by pulling the air intake tube at the throttle body, opening the throttle plate, and checking for carbon/sludge. If you see a lot of it in the intake collector and/or on the back of the throttle plate, use a throttle body cleaner that is safe for Ford's coated intakes to clean the gunk.
