88 camry swap??

Hello, all. I have a 1988 Toyota Camry with a 2.0L and a 5speed, and it is SLOW, as I'm sure everybody knows. I would like to make some more power with it, but I know the tranny won't hold up (barely shifts as it is) and I'm pretty sure those old 2.0L motors can't make a lot of power. So, I'm wondering if there is any kind of engine/tranny combo that would swap in without any serious sawing or other such "mods" to get it to fit. Cheap would be nice, and it has to be a manual tranny. Also, does anybody know of an AWD system that could swap in, like maybe the components from the earlier AWD camrys or tercel wagons? Thanks

there is no better swap unless you want to chuck in the 6cylinder (which is piss weak).

actually, the only reason I posted this in the street racing forum is because it gets an INSANE amount of traffic, and the people there seem to be knowledgable. And no, I don't want to make a super-ricey-speed-racer car out of my POS, I just want to be able to climb hills for chrissakes

Quick question, is the 3GSTE a 4 Banger or is it a V6? Also, is it a direct swap into the 4 Banger Camry as well? Is it swappable into all years of the Camry, or just the older ones?

a 3sgte is a 4cyl turbo engine, you'll probably need to make new engine mounts, figure something out for a tranny, and rewire it ":)

I can just see it...a Celica with an engine missing...

that would make me sad :( pirating parts from a GT4 for a camry :(

well, you can rest easy, because it's way to expensive to bother with. I'll just put up with the crap acceleration until I can buy something faster
