1995 Eagle Talon Tsi

Wassup new member here. I have just as of late really gotten into the scc thing. I have looked at several cars and I am considering a eagle talon tsi 1995. Got some questions though. The car is 1995 body with
a first gen engine. From what i have read in the various mags, that so
far appears to be a good thing. The seller says that the engine has been
gone through. That in itself could mean nothing or something. The car appears to be in decent shape for a 1995 i drove it, i was impressed. The seller has got a turbo timer, a-pillar gauge cluster, air-fuel gauge, exhaust temp gauge, and a boost gauge. But, it leaks a little oil, from the turbo somewhere, it seems to be dripping down on the exhaust cause its burning off you can smell it and see it. The seller says it an oil line that costs $5.00 bucks. I dont know. Its got a boost controller and he said something about a turbo manifold and downpipe off a 95 with a 3 inch exhaust with no cats. no emissions in the state i live yeah for that. anyway bottom line cash price of $4500.00 so if anyone out there can give me some info that would be much appreciated.

Tsi AWD or FWD? Yeah first gen motors are good in 2nd gen cars because its almost a guarantee not to crank walk on you later on. Fix that oil line as soon as possible becuase you would never know what problems it could make later in life. 4500 would be a good asking price for a Tsi AWD but i would say its worth 4g's for a Tsi FWD.

Yes it is a FWD. I have looked High and low in my area for a AWD they seem to be hard to find. I also forgot to mention that he also installed a B & M short shifter, and a aftermarket side mount intercooler.

Seems like a pretty good price for the mods he has done to it. Before you buy it you should take it to a trusted mechanic and have him inspect it.

funny if its leaking oil and its a $5 part, why doesn't he just fix it? sounds fishy to me. with my experience with dsm's i'd have a mechanic go throught the car 5 times over and spend 35 hours diging it apart before i'd buy it. a lot people that sell their dsm is because they are getting rid of it because its breaking down.

yeah well i tried to call the guy back today and no return call. So maybe it is for the best. Found another one though. However it is a 1995 talon tsi with the original motor so that would be $4000.00. Otherwise a stock car.

probably should have started this is the non performance, my apologies for that. I test drove the 1995 it seems to be a pretty decent car. My only question is the crank walk. Is that a could happen or is it a going to happen ? I have read about putting a First gen crank in the second gen with some success. Although not having seen or done this myself i am unsure of the reliability with that or the associated costs of doing that. The 1995 with the original motor has around 157,000 miles on it. So from my experience in building other engines is that it should be needing to be re-built anyway. From a rebuild stand point is suppose its how much money do you want to spend ????
I just want something to have fun with and spend a little money on here and there and in 2-3 years have something that will move out pretty decent and look good doing it.

Crank walk dont always happen.. Its in everycar but mostly in the early 2nd gen eclipse/talon's 95-96, it was barely seen in the 97-99 i think.. Well the decision is up to you. Weather both cars look decent, too many miles... mod'ed / stock. Its up to u on which one u like more or can trust more. Id say go for the first one since its alreay swaped and u drove it fine.

just have to see if i get the call back on the first one. Then have to take it to the mechanic and have him look it over really good. Dont want to buy someone elses problem. Thanks for the info. I will keep updating as progress occurs.

those are a ton of miles for a DSM... that being said the good news is it lasted that long with out crank walk. i figure it probably will never crank walk. But with the amount of maintnece on my 99 with half those miles, i'd be scared of those kinda miles. I probably won't drive mine over 100k. If you get it and plan on rebuilding the engine, or doing a 6-bolt swap that may be a good choice. not sure of the cost as i haven't done either.

Having a 6 bolt engine is a plus especially when you go to sell it to an other hard core DSMer. I'm going to do a monster build on a 6 bolt for my 95 Talon. Find out if the engine has a 1st gen head on it. The 2nd gen head is better. Also if it's only front wheel drive then it used to be a base model Esi. Make sure a machanic has a look at the instalation. I've heard that the engine mounts don't line up. First thing I would do on both vehicles is a leak down and compresion test. Then again I wouldn't trade my AWD for anything in the world. 4 wheel drifting in the snow is my favorite winter hobby.
