Hi all, I am new here, so I will behave. :-)

I have just bought a 94 LX with climate control. Problem is this car was used by a smoker, and when I turn the A/C on there is a very strong cig. oder from the air. Is there a filter that is replaceable in there, and if so how do you get at it?

Thanks....cough....cough....Alot!

No filter that I know of. The smoke has coated the inside of the ventilation system. The first thing to try is to remove the blower motor and clean inside the housing as far as you can reach in both directions. Then reinstall the blower, turn on the system and spray some Lysol or something like it into the fresh air ducts on the cowl. This won't cure the problem for good since you haven't cleaned inside all of the ducts but it will help some. You might want to ask someone at an automobile reconditioning place what they use. Good luck.

There are companies that will "smoke bomb" your car. They will spray the fabric areas with a product similar to febreeze and spray smoke into your car that gets into all the ductwork, inside the dash, under the seats, anywhere they can't spray. After they spray/smoke your car they shut the doors for about 15 or 20 minutes then open it back up to let it air out. It works really well to neutralize odors from pets, smoking, mildew, etc.

you can go to a auto parts store and ask for evaporator and duct cleaner and freshener. good stuff is about $8-$10 bucks a can and follow directions on can. another way is find a repair shop that uses a product named dwd2. it uses a chemical and a machine to "power wash" you ac ventilation system costs between $150 and $300 dollars depending on area you live and how nasty it is, but well worth its cost
