I have currently purchased a 1997 s-10 blazer. about three days after i bought it i had a problem, i was driving like 40 mph, when the speedo dropped to zero mph, the abs light came on, and the tranny shifted into second gear. the tranny stayed in second until i gave it enough gas to shift on the regulator appox. 4500 rpm, at which point it shifted into third. when i leave it sit it doesnt change anything. the only way for me to get the speedo working, and tranny shifting, is to shift the tranny on the regulator hard,,(my foot on the floorboard) then the speedo comes up, the abs light goes off, and it shiftsd normally. is it a vss or the exciter ring, if so how do you fix the problem.

VSS pickups are easily swapped. However, use the search function to look up "97+Ignition+Switch". Swapping the VSS at first may be the cheap fix, but the odds are against you that it's a pesky switch - 97's are infamous for them.

It has been updated to 01-07-30-002d. I've got it, but I'm in the middle of a large download right now. I'll upload it and post a link in a few minutes.

Okay here it is:

His problem doesn't sound like the typical ignition switch failure. I would do a little more investigation before changing any parts.
