im having some issues with my 96 corolla 1.6l. for some reason my fans wont turn on. but the car never overheats according to the gauge, but it has to be because the motor will be blazing hot and the radiator is not too warm at all.kinda odd. ive changed the thermostat, new plugs wires, oil change radiator flush, just wont turn the fans on. any input would be appreciated

I have the same car and my fan would never come on until i realized that when the car is moving the air going in from the grill is enough to cool the radiater. try to run(drive around) your car for an hour straight and then leave the car on for 5 mins, the fans will turn on, at least they do for me... the only explanation i have is that the 1.6l engine is so small that it doesnt require all that much cooling.

the fans used to turn on even going through a drive up window at mcdonalds, yet never overheating. even after car was off they would run for a min or so... but i did find that if i turn on the air conditioner they will stay on as long as the air conditioner is running. im thinkin maybe a sensor or relay? how can you test without going to mechanic ? even sitting at a stop light i could hear them kick on, now nothing unless a.c is on. as soon as u turn air conditioner off, fans go off too. still dosent over heat , never has went above half way mark on temp guage

One fan may be defective. Disconnect the electrical connector cooling fan and see if the fan is receiving voltage while hot and ingnition on.BE Careful. The evap fan and cooling fan should have separate relays. There should be a sensor on the radiator. If so, repace it. The evap fan is controlled by the AC curcuit

this is interesting.... well my radiator fans dont usually come on even if i have the A/C on even in the city. at a traffic light with the A/c on on a hot day they might but otherwise almost never and just like ur car mine doesnt go over the half mark on the temp guage. If u want, if and whenever i have time i can email you the electrical diagram of the of the fan relay maybe that will help working on it. it would be helpful to have someone who has done something like this before.

when i had the a.c on the fans would work constantly until the A C went off. now while the motor is idiling with air cond. running, the fans will go off and on, but there is a loud crackle sound coming from the relay box on drivers side. off.... then on the fans work buit that sound doesnt sound good.could this possibly be due to a loose connection or is that an indication the relay is bad for the fans.. thanks guys , im baffled
