factory amp?

a friend of mine has a 98 dakota and has been having electrical problems like the ones ive read about in here. he took it to the dealership who told him that it was his factory amp in the passenger kick panel. ive searched and searched and have yet to find anything about a factory amp. do the dakota's have factory amps? he has a basic dakota with no bells or whistles. manual everything. thats why i was unsure when i heard that the dealer said it was a factory amp and wanted $300 to replace it.
