What car would be a good fit?

I've had my 94 Camaro for only about 5 months now, but I very sadly am going to have to sell it soon. I just started at university, and there's no way I can manage gas, the astronomical insurance, and the large amount of money I owe on the car at this stage of my life (I'm 18 and only working part-time).

Therefore, I've decided to sell the Maro and buy something cheaper, something that gets good fuel efficiency.

These are the things I'm looking for:

1) Fuel efficiency-first and foremost
2) Room-I'm going to be transporting myself (6'4"), so I need something with a lot of leg room and head room...my Camaro was perfect for this. I also need enough trunk space to fit a huge hockey bag + sticks.
3) Style-I can't drive an ugly car. It's just something I will and can not do. I know that in the price range I'm looking at, I'm not going to be able to get anything too amazing, but I still want a sporty, or atleast sportier car than your standard 4-door Sedan.
4) Speed-Since I'm looking for a fuel efficient car, I'm not looking for top speed. But I know that many four-cylinder cars have a lot of jump off the line, which is exactly what I'm looking for...I love accelerating and cornering, top speed isn't what I'm interested in.
5) Not a Civic. (No offense Civic drivers.)

As for price range, I'm looking to spend upto 4000 Canadian (3400 US), but I'd much rather spend between 2000 and 3000 Canadian (1700-2500 US).

The only cars I can think of that match these descriptions (based on my own limited car knowledge) would be like an early 90's Celica, or a 240SX or something like that. Any other suggestions would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

He said he doesnt want a Civic.

I'd suggest a '92-'96 Honda Prelude. Great fuel efficiency, good reliable car, has enough trunk space for what you need, pretty quick off the line for a 4cyl, etc. You can find one fairly cheap on www.autotrader.com or www.cars.com

Like I tell everybody, Saturn sc2. Great gas, quick pickup, fun to drive, and low maintenance

Any integra period. preludes are nice and Id drive one but more pricey and heavier than the integra. im pretty sure you can pick up N/A MR2's for cheap...about in that price range.
Hatchbacks are great on gas, cheap as hell, and have TONS of potential.....but i always feel like death is lurking around the corner in my friends LS/VTEC hatch....................I say you get a old-school accord. 5spd of course. you wont be dissapointed.

There's a 1990 Supra Turbo for 4 grand in the paper today...how would that be on gas, if I drove line a sane person?

Why would you sell a Camaro to buy an old Supra Turbo? The gas milage probably won't be any better, the insurance is probably still high, cargo space won't be much if any better, and they aren't very reliable. You'd be much better off with an Integra, Accord, Maxima or the like for your needs.

How much do you owe on the maro and do you have a v6 or an 8? It probably isn't worth that much. You would most likely save more money by just keeping it. Buying another car costs a little money, and you will most likely lose a little money on your car.

I owe, I think...6 grand-ish Canadian on the Maro, approximately. If I can sell it for about 7.5, which is a bit less than what I bought it for (after taxes), that'll leave me with 1500 to put towards a car, plus I can take out another loan from my parents.

I'm not neccasarily selling the car because it's bad on gas, the truth is that it isn't actually that bad. It's just that I owe so much on the car, it'd be much easier and much less stressful to be handling a smaller loan.

If you get something too cheap, it will end up costing you more in repairs than you own on the maro. Unless you buy a civic :grinno:
