700R4 @#$#& SHIFTING PROBLEMS!

1989 GMC 350/700R4 ---- Is there anything besides the TV cable that controls the shift timing/firmness? I have adjusted the TV cable (new tv cable) by pushing in the release on the side of the housing and having someone floor the gas pedal, but the trans still doesn't shift quite right. It upshifts to quickly unless the gas pedal is floored, and I have a hard time getting it to downshift at all. Second is particularly quirky-- it seems fine with moderate throttle, but at full throttle the trans almost skips second into third, unless I hold it manually with the gear selector. The trans is a newly rebuilt with new stock stall convertor. I was having some of these same issues when I bought the truck a few months ago, before the original trans puked 2nd and 4th. Any advice?

The TV Cable can only be adjusted by hand. You should not adjust it by having someone press the gas pedal.
See this http://www.tciauto.com/instructions/gm_tv_cable_adjust.htm
The TV Cable controls the Throttle Valve so it could be sticking or leaking.

I had this problem with my truck 69 chevy with 84 700r4 from a van. It was explained to me that the gov. springs needed changing. I never got around to it... (truck was wrecked...) still have it though, one day I may fix it.
