93 Grand Am Window Replacement

Hi, after having solved my squealing noise problem I now have another one - my rear left passenger window has been broken out on campus.

*SIGH*

So anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew some information about self-replacement... I know of a few great junkyards where I could find some decent replacement windows. My question is: Do I need special tools or know-how to do this or can I follow a simple diagram and take car of it for way less than $150.

It's a manual window, by the way.

Is it the fixed window or the regular window? The regular window you have to take the door panel off, open the window enough to get to the bolts holding it to the regulator, take out the remains and vacuum the bottom of the door as broken glass sliding around in there will drive you nuts, slide the new window into place and bolt it to the regulator. You might have to wiggle the glass around a little bit to fit it into the tracks, but its not too hard to do. Good luck.

It is a manual (roll-up window) and there's nothing in there now... I'm going to go to a junkyard and try and find another window and take it off and replace it in my own grandam. Can I use a power window in my roll-up? ANY advice is useful. I just don't want to pay exorberant amounts for something I can do myself.

yup doesn't matter if its power or manual, but windows from manual doors are much easier to get out as you can raise and lower them without much hassle, power windows you might have to lug a battery and jump some wires to move the window.

i can't get the door off i don't know how to get the locks or the window regulator free (or the handle)

To get the window handle off you either need to buy the tool or make a hook out of a paperclip and grab the clip on the back side of the window handle and pull it out. You might need pliers to do this. To get the trim around the door handle and lock lever out you need to lock the door, remove the phillips screw hidden behind the lock lever, then unlock the door and pry the lever off the rod starting from the back of the lever. Then pull the door handle out and wiggle the plastic trim around the handle until you can turn it out and away from the handle. There should be 3 screws along the bottom of the door panel and one in the armrest, they need to come out. Pull on the bottom of the door panel and work your way around it, if it seems to be stuck look for a screw where its binding. Once the door panel swings freely from the top of the door lift it straight up and put it in a safe place. Hope this helps.
