B16B vs. B16A?

B16A (G1): 160 ps @ 7600 rpm
B16B (Civic Type R): 185 ps @ 8200 rpm
How else do these compare for a CRX swap? Are parts easy to get in the US for the B16B? What other issues should I be aware of?

IMO the b16b swap isnt worth the money you pay for it. the normal b16a is what 1500 complete at most? and the ctr is like 4500, right?
3000 for 25 more hp isnt worth it. not to mention you will have to downgrade the ctr tranny to a cable type s1, or y1 from the first gen b16a anyways. with that 3000 you can get a full turbo kit, and be running circles around that b16b. even building it NA, you can run circles around it with that 3 grand you saved

i was thinking about getting the b16b too a while ago. then i looked at the prices...no way. i got the b16a and built it up. made 264hp 185lbs. and i still havent payed the money it would have taken to get the b16b. if you got the money then go for it, just to be different. but even in that case, you could do so much with the extra money. and i think 4500 is pretty cheap for b16b.

even honda parts are way overpriced, like type r parts...type r cams are $$$$ and you only get like 5hp outta a 1st gen b16a...crower race cams make 30hp @ 13000rpm, but below 5000 itll probably barely run...still, 13000rpm is cool, so is 30hp more...

I just bought a B16B not too long ago for $4,000 and it comes with ecu, axles, LSD, etc. It'll be arriving in a week or so but reading this post is kind of true I guess. Owning a ctr engine is more for bragging rights than horsepower gains, but I wanted a good, healthy stock engine instead of messing around with tuning by turbocharging a "$1500" B16A (I've never seen one for less than $2,400 in good shape).

Why didnt u just buy a gsr ??? B16b is a cool motor to have but its still not enough torque! Just a lil more money u can have a jdm itr motor with that nice 4.7 final drive ratio for the newer ones.

Because the GSR engine costed the same amount, and mounts through Hasport where ungodly expensive ($600 I think?). I wanted an easy install, civic-civic with more power, and needed it fast. I couldn't find any good deals on a B16A anywhere so bought the B for imo a good deal.

Huh?? A gsr motor is the same way of installin any b-series motor. You'll need the usual custom mounts, linkage and axles. I'd choose gsr or itr motor over b16b anyday. Its totally not worth it.

I did talk to them. They had no b16a's in stock, and the only gsr engine they had was from an '01, costing $4k. I checked around and nobody else had a gsr for a reasonable price, who knows maybe I called around at a bad time. I went through www.inlinefour.com for the ctr and they were pretty cool over the phone. hmo customer service is kind of shitty... the itr swap on www.inlinefour.com was $5900, for EVERYTHING. Their website sells spoon and jun products too, so depending on the condition of my engine I'll be buying more from them.

A B16B is a way better motor then the B16A. Some guys on here were saying you can turbo the B16A and get more horsepower then the "B"...this is true but Honda motors aren't meant to be turbo'd. It ruins the motors! As for the B18b being better then the B16B motor...that also is untrue. They both produce the same hp but the B16 has more torque. The B16B is a more expensive motor but people who but these motors buy them because of what they represent.
