'89 GA 2.3 engine question

Have an '89 GA that just toasted its engine. Its a 2.3 Quad 4. Its beyond repair. Metal flakes in the oil and won't turn over. It went out with a bang and with little warning. Anyways, seeing that good, used '89 engines are fewer and far between, what year Quad 4's would slide in without too much modification? Or preferrably no mods. I have a chance to get a '94 engine. Would that fit? The car is worth fixing, but not with a new/rebuilt engine. Thanks for any help.

Physically a 94 quad will fit, but you need to do some extensive electrical work as all the electrical stuff is going to be very different ie temp sensor, ecm, things like that. The engine harness should fit in the car, but you are going to need the dash harness for the ecm, also the instrument cluster unless you are good with wiring and can adapt the harness from 94 to your 89. Good luck, physicallly its not too hard but its going to be time consuming for the electrical. i would considering tearing apart your quad and see what went bang, if the block is good replace the crank and rods. Hope this helps.
