3.8 engine cranking but will not turn over. Checked ignition module and replaced it. I replaced the fuel pump Relay module with one from the junk yard and it is clicking fast when I turn the key. The fuel pump would not even run when the old module was installed. The engine is not firing at all. Can anyone make a suggestion??????????? I am clueless at this point.

Thanks,
Big Mike

Can you hear the fuel pump pressurize? A hum for 2-3 seconds then quiet? Check for pressure at the fule rail. Be careful, it will spray out if under pressure.

You mention the engine is not firing at all. Did you check for spark, or do you mean it just cranks but does not sound like it wants to start? Does the cranking sound normal (other than it never starts) or is it faster than usual?

You need three things to make an internal combustion engine start and run:
-Proper air/fuel mixture.
-Spark at the proper time.
-Proper compression.

-Rod

I checked for spark and their was none at the top of the distributor cap. The cranking does sound normal. Any clue?

What year is your Taurus?

Check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Sometimes it is hard to hear if the fuel pump is running or not. Or, you can pull a plug or two after cranking it for a bit. If they are saturated with fuel, you know you are getting fuel and hopefully it's good fuel (not watered down or old) and most likely not getting a good spark.

Do you have access to a spark tester? You might be able to rent run at a local parts store. That will give you a better indication than a screwdriver across the distributor cap, and is safer for both you and the car.

If you have fuel and no spark, you may want to look in the direction of the camshaft position sensor and crankshaft position sensor.
