Engine Overheat damage?

Number two son pranged the front end of his 97 Eclipse RST 4-cyl (again) on a dip and didn't notice that he was losing anti-freeze until the next day when he had to push the car off the highway in DC rush-hour traffic. It stopped running but turned over after it cooled and he had it towed. Here's my question: besides the cracked radiator, is there any likelihood that he did other engine damage? Does the car stall simply because of fuel vaporization? Waiting for the warped head or other problem, please advise.

So the antifreeze leaked, and the engine died. Its hard to tell without looking at the engine but most likely there wont be a huge problem. Fill it up again and see that all hoses and clamps are in good condition and holding. Next time, tell him to check his temp gauge more often, or atleast check on his car. I would see for other damage on the car, at what speed did he hit that dip and how bad ? since that can cause more problems either now or later on.

I would think that if he ran it long enough to shut it self off i would be VERY worried about warped head. But hey you might be lucky.

Good luck!

My biggest concern would be the cylinder head.

So, he didn't see the gauge go up?
Isn't there a overheating light?
Didn't he see smoke coming from under the hood?

Could've turned on the heater and let it soak throught alittle, but wow. That's bad.
