I just got an '85 Olds 88 4D from my oldest brother. He's had it for 16 years and it's been sitting in his garage for almost 3 years now. I asked what he was going to do with it, and he gave it to me, wich is great but sucks because I have to pay GIFT tax since he wants to write it off. It was stolen 3 years ago and the people that stole it put an $800 stereo system in it. Luckily the police recovered it and it was returned WITH the stereo. They busted the steering column to get to a small square pin that lifts when the key is turned. It's amazing actually if you know about this, how easy it is to get to it.

My question is, where do I go to get this repaired? I dont think I need a whole new column, just the plastic that goes around it. Im tired of starting my car with a scewdriver!

I think your best bet would be a junk yard ignition cylander...if the junk yard still has the keys. I dont know what it would take to remove, however.

I'd assume that you would have to remove the steering wheel to get at the guts, but i'm not sure.
