Dual Exhaust

The first step in my 78 ThunderBird muscle car project is going to be the exhaust. It currently only has a single and i plan on changeing it to a dual. I was wondering, if im planning on upgradeing the carb, intake, crankshaft, pistons among a few other things, what do you suggest for a pipe diameter for the duals? It will basically be a suped up 400 V8.
Also if you have any suggestions on mufflers. I want mufflers (2) that will make it sound more throaty and muscle car like (im NOT looking for an import sound.. gross).

I would go with either 2.5 or 3 inch for the pipes and you can't beat flowmaster mufflers for that great musclecar sound. You can go to their site and click on mufflers and sample the different muffler sounds at www.flowmastermufflers.com.

Be sure to get a decent set of headers. Stock manifolds won't cut it if you pump it up in the future.
Flow Masters are the buzz word muffler. The "X-cellerator" is another good one. The old "Hush Thrush" turbos flow very well, and are kinda quiet.

you couldnt make a 400 v8 sound like an import if you tried,, should be easy to get a gorgeous throaty sound out of that thing w/ most aftermarket mufflers/exhaust systems :2cents:

2.5 is a good diameter its what im putting on my 327 as for muflers i would suggest flowmaster 40 series if you want to hear the exhaust inside the car than do not opt for the delta flow option because it has more baffling "i think that is what it is called" that muffles the sound more so you cant hear while driving as much
