97 disco Trans Cooler leak

Had a dump of fluid from under my disco and mechanic said the trans cooler assembly was leaking. He wants to change the cooler and lines to it for a tune of $1500. Any workarounds here or am I doomed to yet ANOTHER $1000+ repair on this thing? Someone recommended a Universal kit can be purchased but since NOTHING is universal on these things I'm wondering if any has had any experience with one.
