I just purchased a 1987 Bonny - SSE with 195k - the car is Mint I have to say not a scratch well kept - for a 17yr old Vehicle - I am putting this post out for some advice on some of the lil things I have noticed so far and maybe you guys here can Help me with it. I would like to ask you guys who have 87 Bonnies or the same SSE as me - what did you do once you purchased yours -
1. I have to 1 Replace the Driver's Glass there is a small crack in it - any One know where I Can purchase this glass online.

2. I have the check engine soon light come on every once in awhile - I am currently going to give her Tune Up and see if the Light goes out.

3. The Driver's Computers that gives the diagnostics of what's going on doesn't light up at all

4. Does any 1 know a good site to get Parts for the Boneville SSE 87

5. Those who have the SSE 87 can you tell me what mechanical issues have you expereinced or is there any know issues I should be made aware of -from you guys who Have an SSE

I really want to say Thank You, to all those that can help me with some of this Info :)

1) My suggestion is to get the window at a junk yard or someone parting out a car. A Lesabre 4 door should fit too.

2) Advance Auto (and other parts stores) will pull the codes for free. Find out what the computer is complaining about and fix that problem. If your car needs a tune up, then by all means do it but don't just throw parts at it in hopes of curing the check engine light.

3) That's a pretty popular problem. I have 3 clusters and not one has a functioning compass or DIC... although I think the problem is in the DIC module rather then the displays. One of these days, I'll get around to bench testing all of the parts I have to try to make sense of it.

4) That's a bit odd. The SSE trim level and the C engine came out in 88 not in 87. Nevertheless, there are no real "common" mechanical problems with this drive train. I've heard of several owners with over 300k miles. The trans doesn't have quite the lifespan as the engine but can be rebuilt reasonably.

The Teves antilock system is an expensive nightmare.

Check for rusted fuel & brake lines near the fuel filter

The rear door latches have a bad habit of rusting. This causes the rear doors to not open
