Hey man, if you want ur subs to make any kind of noise, dont put em in the trunk. There isnt enough air in the trunk for the subs to move. I had mine in the trunk and was pissed; then put em in the back seat and was settin off car alarms

no, no, no. Put them in the trunk in a custom pro box. Will hit harder than throwing them in the back seat. This is my set up.

Here ya go man, http://www.subthump.com/acamarovert.htm. I'd suggest keeping the subs in the trunk, and away from the interior.
There's plenty of air in the trunk, so they should hit fine given that you have a good wattage amp. I have heard that the subs tend to rattle the trunk a little. So it may be wise to get some dynomat if you have this problem.

He has a convertible.. so, no hatch setup would work.

You're gonna want to be real careful if you screw the amp down there. The gas tank is directly underneath, and I know a guy who (no knowing the tank was there) went right into it.

guy, trust me... I actually had the exact same car. When it comes to subs, the name of the game is "air displacement". You can have the most powerful sub and amp combo around but no air, no sound. When you close the lid on a camaro convertible, its not the same as a hatchback its an enclosed environment with limited air and space

Well agree to disagree. I've hooked up dozens of subs in my friends trunks. Most of them were smaller than that of a Camaro's. And they kicked pretty good if I do say so myself. As big as the camaro's trunk is, I'd say it's got plenty of air as compared to that of other smaller vehicles trunks. Heck I installed 2 10"s in my friends accord. Trunks is about 1/4 smaller than that of a camaro, and that sucker kicked like there was no tomorrow. Same with my friends cavalier. Shoot, you could hear him comin a quarter mile away.

hell im thinking a convertable has a different trunk than we do right? nobody i know has one, but if it is just a small trunk then the name of the game isnt dont do it, its step your game up and have a custom system setup for u so it will sound great. space means nothing i know because all the little ass imports ive owned in the past had thump! not all rattley nice crisp sound. all u need is a place that can advise u on what they can do so it sounds great. anything can be done if u have the resources....dont take no or a it cant be done for an answer...we all know i blow that phrase out the water...when they told me i couldnt get a 3.8 to run what a mustang gt could without spray...ha!

all of those cars u jus mentioned have more space than a camaro convertible. I bet in those imports u can lay the subs facing horizontally right? well i had two tens a while back and the only thing u could do with em in the trunk was face em up. and sitting in the trunk, i took a ruler and observed that there was about 6 inches of clearance between the top of the subs and the end of the trunk. There was no room for anything else but the speakers in there. I am 100% sure that lil hondas and etc have more space because a girl i dated had a 94 honda accord with enough room for a full sized 2 12' box. Even my friend's 1980-something geo prizm has more trunk space than a camamro convertible

Okay man, well I'm not here to argue with you, nor am I here to debate. I gave the guy my advice, so he can take it or leave it. I personally feel that subs in the trunk of a convertible would suite him nicely, and sound good. You can disagree with that all you want, that's your choice. But from my experience of installing sound systems, I come to believe it will sound just fine. Maybe you had an amp that wasn't pushing enough watts to give you the bass you wanted, thus resulting in you moving them to the back seat. But I personally would find subs sitting in my back seat to be an annoyance, and wouldn't recommend that to anyone. So again, I'm through with this discussion, and am not going to argue about this.

Well what kind of subs and amp were you pushin in your trunk?

at first i had two 500 watt 10s wit a 600 watt amp, but i blew them turnin it up cuz i wasnt gettin the bass i wanted. then i got two kenwood 700watt 10s and was like hmm.. i wonder if i put it in the car will it push more air and be louder. It was. so then I got 2 1800 watt 12s cuz the only reason i had tens was because 12s box wouldnt fit in the trunk. and thats how it was till the accident.

So you ended up trying to push two 700 watt 10's with a 600 watt amp in the trunk? Or did you get a different amp after you changed from the 500 watts?

I've had the same amp all along

Well that's probably why you weren't getting good bass with it in your trunk. With two 700 watt 10's, I'm guessing your amp is probably pushing around 225-250 watts rms. Thats watts to each sub. So with 700 watt subs only getting around 200 somthin watts, you really can't expect all that much. And then moving up to 1800 watt subs, that's just going to degrade the performance even further with a 600 watt amp.

Right now I've got two 1000 watt subs in my hatch being pushed by a 760 watt amp. It's got 350 watts rms. So each one of my subs are getting at least, if not a little more than 350 watts. And I've got mine pushed all the way down to the bottom of my hatch, with my little cardboard flip cover up so you cant see them. So there's really not alot of air getting to them if you think about it, and I set off alarms all the time. See, your system would have been really bad ass if you got another 600 watt amp and ram one amp to each sub. Those suckers would really have been pounding then.

Shoot, mines a cheap one from walmart.

I don't spend money on that top of the line brand name stuff when I can get the same stuff cheaper at walmart. Shoot, my friend has 2 Rockford Fosgate subs in his T/A, and they sound just like my Visonik's (which I never even heard of until I got the things).

walmart stuff has bad wiring, they have been known to melt and catch ur car on fire. Plus the amp will not last as long or produce the same quality of sound the rockford fosgates do.

Some people can tell a difference in bass sound some cant. Or some more than others. I would not believe that visoniks or whatever could match fosgates. At least not at high levels of operation. I have never seen a convertable camaros truck either but i would imagine that with a small trunk and the trunk being way back there with the gas tank and convertable stuff in the way. With the normal hatch camaro the sound hits the glass and resonates to the rest of the car giving a great sound with a lot of punch. But i dont know about a convertable. Personally im thinkin i might get a little 12" bass cube to stick in my trunk or t top space or whatever (if it will fit). My maro has the locking lid with the bose speakers and i really dont want a bunch of hugh boom and a ton of weight. Only a balance of sound. Not really into how loud i can get my stereo. Just want it to sound good and clean. Anyways, good luck with your project.

Now that my friend, is hilarious. I highly doubt that my amp has the slightest bit of a chance of melting and catching my car on fire. It's made by Pioneer, which I'm sure you know have a great reputation from their electronics. Same with the Sony products as well. Neither Sony, Pioneer, Lightening Audio, or any other product Wal-Mart sells, are going to sell a crappy product that's going to break after a short period of time. They wan't to bring customers in, not push them away. Shoot, most the stuff you buy there comes with a 90 day warranty anyway.

Yeah, maybe it just sounds the same to me because I'm not much of a bass head. I could really care less how many watts I'm running, I just wanted some bass that was cheap. So your probably right.
